The Kansas NRCS Apprentice Program USDA is an equal opportunity provider and employer.

How Do Students Benefit from the Apprentice Program  Provides experience and information to help make informed career choices  Fulfills community service requirements for scholarships, college, and technical schools  Provides work experience for job applications and resumés  Provides a reference to natural resources in making lifetime decisions

What is an Apprentice? One who is learning by practical experience under skilled workers – a trade, art, or calling Synonym: see student, learner, beginner, assistant helper

What is the KAP?  The Kansas Apprentice Program (KAP) began in the summer of USDA, Natural Resources Conservation Service in Kansas initiated the program to acquaint students with the importance of conserving our natural resources.

What is the KAP? (continued)  An innovative year-round program that seeks successful students interested in work experience in natural resources.  Students with either a nonagricultural or agricultural background will be considered.  Allows the apprentice to participate in a variety of hands- on learning experiences. These could include: engineering surveying, staking terraces and ponds, water quality activities, environmental education, and natural resource camps.
