Recruit Undeclared Majors to Mathematics and Science Teacher Preparation Programs Target undeclared majors by providing: Outreach activities that highlight math and science teaching Advising by Single Subject Credential Program Coordinators and mathematics and science faculty Information on financial aid incentives and examination preparation support

Establish Links with High School Clubs and Organizations Provide outreach services to Future Teacher Clubs and Hispanic Youth Leadership Council Chapters Employ University students as Teacher Education Ambassadors to attend high school club meetings and make presentations on teacher education programs Establish a database of prospective students to send information on Mathematics and science teaching careers and initiatives Teacher Recruitment & Retention Office to serve as a point of contact for prospective students

Mathematics and Science Teachers of Tomorrow Conference Co-sponsored with Student Recruitment & Outreach Recruitment event targeting high school and community college students Acquaint students with the: –University –Education Faculty –Careers in teaching math and science –Financial aid incentives –Examination Preparation Opportunities –Available support services Establish database of prospective students to send information on mathematics and science teaching careers and initiatives

Recruit Mathematics and Science Majors to Teacher Education Programs Identify mathematics and science majors who haven’t considered teaching as a career option Target students with a “B” or better in course work Coordinate provision of information on teacher education programs, careers in teaching, financial aid incentives and CSET examination preparation support opportunities

Partnership Development Community College collaborative for information exchange and outreach efforts for enhancing the pipeline of math and science teachers Service Area Schools to offer mathematics and science teaching internships Campus Outreach Services to train recruiters to present math and science teacher education/career options: Campus Career Services to provide: –career advising to teacher candidates –career faire collaboration (to support teacher recruitment event) Other collaboratives that support mathematics and science teacher recruitment efforts

Financial Aid Support to Mathematics and Science Teacher Candidates Promote financial aid opportunities through: -General information sessions/workshops -FAFSA-on-the-Web Workshops -Website advertising -Informational brochures in the Teacher Recruitment & Retention Office Increase scholarship opportunities: -Collaborate with campus scholarship office to increase access to teacher education scholarships -Explore outside scholarship opportunities Ex: Noche de Beccas, a community-based Hispanic scholarship organization will support the MSTI Project by awarding Future Teacher Scholarships to Math and Science Teacher Candidates

Advertising Professional Publications: Develop a comprehensive Teacher Education Advertising Campaign focusing on careers in Mathematics and science teaching Collaborate with University communications and outreach experts to develop professional publications and informational resources that highlight math and science teacher education programs and careers in teaching Work with outreach staff to distribute brochures at recruitment events and site visits to service area high schools and community colleges

Advertising Public Service Advertising Campaign: Develop PSA’s with local radio stations/cable channels to promote math and science programs/careers in teaching and contact information Create announcements for regional newspapers to run articles promoting math and science programs/careers in teaching, financial aid incentives, support services and contact information Highlight the achievements of CSU Stanislaus mathematics and science teacher candidates who have succeeded despite significant hardships to appeal to prospective students

Advertising Website Advertising: Develop a website for prospective students Website will feature: –Interactive page that enables prospective students to correspond with faculty advisors and project staff –Contact information –CSET testing and examination preparation information –A link to the FAFSA website ( to support students in submitting the application on-line –A link to the APLE loan forgiveness and other financial aid programs –Important dates, deadlines, etc.

Enrollment Services Support Work with Enrollment Management (EM) to: Utilize CSU Stanislaus EM Technology to identify students interested in mathematics and science programs Tailor webpage to provide specific information on programs in mathematics and science Assist prospective students to create a personal VIP webpage where MSTI can answer specific questions Develop prospective student database for future communications
