On the left, below and above, motherhood and the people who are struggling for peace are depicted. Musical symbols in the panel evoke thoughts of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony, which was a favourite of Mr. Hammarskjold's.

F 1-REVIEW: SUBJECT PRONOUNS! Pro’s to know! SINGULAR 1.I = JE 2. You= Tu 3.He,She= Il, Elle One(We,They, You,People)= On PLURAL 1.We= NOUS 2.You- VOUS 3.They= Ils, ELLES

WHAT IS AN INFINITIVE? The infinitive is the basic, unconjugated form of a verb, sometimes called the name of the verb. In English the infinitive is to + verb: to be, to see, to eat, etc. We are going to concentrate on the verbs with –ER endings. Most –er verbs follow this pattern at the present tense: E, ES, E, ONS, EZ, ENT ENGLISH - FRENCH To speak? = PARLER I speak, You speak, He speaks To swim? = NAGER I swim, You swim, He swims

HOW DO WE CONJUGATE ? When one “Conjugates” a verb, one is putting it a subject with a verb-together correctly in the tense needed. In English, we say: JE- I verb, am verbing, do verb TU-You verb, are verbing, do verb IL-He verbs, NOUS-We verb, VOUS-You (all) verb, ILS-They verb etc. EXAMPLE: Aimer (to like) We CONJUGATE the infinitive: J’aime I like Tu aimes You like Il aime He likes

To Conjugate an ER verb: Take the whole verb, take off the “ER” and add the endings: THE ENDINGS ARE: Je---E Nous---ONS TU---ES Vous---EZ IL/elle/on--E Ils/elles—ENT

PAR EXEMPLE: PARLER Je parle (I SPEAK) *Nous parlons (WE SPEAK) Tu parles (YOU SPEAK) *Vous parlez (YOU SPEAK) Il parle (He speaks) * Ils parlent (THEY SPEAK)

Noun subjects take the same verb forms as their pronouns. Examples: Philippe aime la salade. Il aime la salade. Sophie et Julie aiment les vacances Elles aiment les vacances

e es e e je/j’ tu il elle nous vous ils elles ons ez ent F 1-les verbes faciles --“ER”

Un autre exemple! e es e e je/j’ tu il elle nous vous ils elles ons ez ent joue joues joue joue jouons jouez jouent Jouer = to play jouent jouer= l’infinitif du verbe l’infinitif = “no time no body” jouer I play you play he plays she plays we play you play they play
