D.A.R.E. Review Nonverbal Communication Did anyone practice nonverbal techniques? Why is it important to use effective listening skills when we communicate?

Bullying: an aggressive or unwanted behavior used again and again to isolate, harm, or control another person.  Repeated  Intentional, harmful, hurtful  Victim unable to stop it

D.A.R.E. Question Forms of Bullying Examples?

o Verbal Name calling, teasing o Social Leaving someone out, gossip o Physical Pushing, shoving o Cyber bullying Texting, , social networks Forms of Bullying o Verbal Name calling, teasing o Social Leaving someone out, gossip o Physical Pushing, shoving

Public or private? Most bullying almost always occurs in front of other people. Most people that witness this behavior want to do something, but don’t. What is the name of this person?

Bystander: Someone who witnesses bullying who has the opportunity to help. Why do they not help?

 Fear that others would make fun of them  Think someone else will step in and help  Afraid it could make the situation worse  Do not know what to do  Might lose friends

Tattling or Telling? Some people are afraid to report bullying because they do not want to tattle on others, but there is a difference between tattling and telling….what is the difference?

When you want to get someone in trouble for harmless behavior. Providing information to a trusted adult to help someone or keep them safe. When you want to get someone in trouble for harmless behavior. Telling: Tattling:

Situation 1: Teresa leaves a note on the teacher’s desk that says, “every morning at recess a bunch of other kids punch Jack and call him mean names.”

Situation 2: Jonathan tells his teacher that Maria is talking during class.

Situation 3: Chris leaves an anonymous note for the school counselor that Bobby is sad and doesn’t want to go to school because some people are putting gross things in his locker every single day.

Telling=Reporting What are some of the ways to report bullying?
