Policy C2060 – Definition of Work Integrated Learning Work Integrated Learning (WIL) is a planned, approved and evaluated work- based experiential activity that is part of an approved Program of Study. WIL implies engagement with a work place environment which can provide relevant and authentic settings for integrating theoretical learning and practice.

Why Do We Need Agreements?

Purposes of Agreement WIL Agreements: –Formalize placement – Quality placement experience –Stipulate the responsibilities of all stakeholders involved –Provide learning objectives and other curricular guidelines –Respond to changing expectations

Risks and Liabilities MacEwan is required to protect its students Office of the Auditor General requires public authorities to have signed agreements in place before undertaking activities and incurring liability Evidence in anticipation of litigation

Main Features of the WIL Agreement Section 2 – Completion of Schedules –Schedules “A”, “B” and “C” will be completed for each student prior to the commencement of the WIL Placement

Main Features of the WIL Agreement (Cont’d) Section 4 – Term of WIL Agreement –One-Time WIL Placement In the event that MacEwan and the Host Organization agree that the WIL for one or more students is a “One-Time WIL Placement”, the term of the WIL Agreement shall be the duration of the One-Time WIL Placement as provided in Schedule “B”, attached.

Main Features of the WIL Agreement (Cont’d) Section 12 – Indemnification –MacEwan agrees to indemnify and save harmless the Host Organization, its employees, contractors, agents and other representatives from any and all claims, demands, actions and costs whatsoever arising from the negligent acts or omissions of a MacEwan student or MacEwan Instructor. –The Host Organization agrees to indemnify and save harmless MacEwan, its students, instructors, employees, agents and other representatives from any and all claims, demands, actions and costs whatsoever arising from the negligent acts or omissions of the Host Organization, its employees, contractors, agents and other representatives.
