WHAT YOU CAN GAIN BY SELLING THE BIG ISSUE SELF -ESTEEM -CONTROL - RESPECT

WHAT YOU CAN GAIN BY SELLING THE BIG ISSUE Motivation – More of a structure in your life can give you a better sense of purpose. There are targets and goals for every day and these will give you a great sense of achievement when you’ve reached them. Having to be somewhere at certain times and making plans for your day can make it much more enjoyable than empty days which drag.

THINGS TO START THINKING ABOUT AS A NEW VENDOR

VISIBILITY You’re standing on a street which may have lots of people around such as shoppers, charity collectors, newspaper stands or peddlers, so you need to make sure you are noticed. As well as showing you are an official vendor, your tabard makes you far more visible than you’d be without it. Be aware of obstructions that mean people struggle to walk in front of you, such as lamp posts, bins etc

BE APPROACHABLE Be aware of items such as mobile phones, headphones, sunglasses and hoods as they lower communication and can intimidate the public. Think about what impression you would get from yourself if you were a potential customer. Small harmless things can make a big impact. T shirts with offensive slogans/cannabis leaf etc aren’t a good look! Be clean! Take pride in your appearance, if nothing else, you’ll feel better about yourself. Smile! Make people laugh! Even if they don’t buy off you this time they’ll be far more likely to do so next time. Be quirky, funny, don’t just parrot “Issue…. Issue…. Issue…”

WHEN PEOPLE SAY NO More people will say no than yes. It’s not all negative though, the way you respond to this can have a big impact on whether or not they decide to buy again. Say THANK YOU Even the person behind you who wasn’t going to buy the magazine may stop and buy/comment on your politeness.

CONGRATULATIONS YOU HAVE COMPLETED MODULE ONE!
