On my way home I decided to take a shortcut through the park. It was getting late. Suddenly a large shadow fell across my path. I turned around...

I turned around and saw a hairy chimpanzee lurking in the darkness. It was chattering at me in monkey talk. I guessed this chimp had monkeyed around and unlocked its cage. But who had time to wonder how it got here? My goal: to escape with my life.

I ran through the woods as fast as my shaking legs would carry me. I thought about climbing a tree but quickly rejected that idea when I recalled what kind of creature was after me.

I dodged around trees, jumped over rocks and splashed across a creek, but the chimp’s shadow was gaining on me. Out of breath, I stopped running and turned to face my stalker.

“Enough monkey business!” I said. The chimp suddenly did a cartwheel. Standing up, it smiled crookedly and its eyes glowed like two nightlights. I wasn’t afraid anymore.

The chimp’s shadow was bigger than the chimp. It was really the scary shadow that made me run. When I turned to go home, the monkey started following me. We walked all the way to my house. While the chimp munched on an apple I phoned the zoo. I ended up getting a free lifetime pass.

Now I can monkey around at the zoo whenever I want to.
