The African Elephant’s description Light brown to dark gray in skin color. 5-14 ft. tall and 6, ,000 lbs. Eats grasses, leaves, bamboo, bark, roots, bananas, and sugarcane. Adults eat lbs. of food per day!
The animal’s home The African Elephant lives in the southwest part of Africa. They live in 37 different countries south of the Sahara Desert. Their habitat is either the in damp, cool forests or on the hot, dry savannah.
Why they’re endangered Poachers hunt them for their ivory (their teeth and tusks). Loggers are cutting down the forests. The farmers are clearing the savannah. The top picture shows its tusks. The bottom picture shows its teeth.
Their protection You can not sell their ivory (teeth and tusks). You can't hunt them. If your caught doing either of them, you will go to prison.
Interesting facts It is the largest land animal on Earth. They are excellent swimmers. Both the cow (female) and bull (male) have tusks.
