Guns and Teens Danger of Guns

Objective: Students will be able to understand the dangerous opportunities that present themselves when guns are available to teens. Students will learn when the opportunity presents itself to change a potentially dangerous situation if a gun is present.

Taking Risks Today we will be watching a short video that shows 2 of 4 different clips of potentially dangerous situations that can occur when a gun is brought into play. The video clips will rewind and then show when people had a choice to do things differently that would have changed the future.

Video Clip 1 How realistic did this video seem? How does saving face today compare to 1, 2, or 3 years in the future…will it still be a good choice? How does maturity effect your choices? What if this were two adults? Would this scenario look different? Do we consider adults cool when they make poor choices or do we shake our heads and say how stupid that was? Are there times when you have done something out of impulse or reaction or just without thinking and then really regretted afterwards because the outcome wasn’t what you thought would happen?

Video Clip 2 This type of situation has happened in public schools….even though you may think this kid is stupid….there are tons of people in our world that do ‘stupid’ things including ourselves. How would you feel if you or your friend or boyfriend/girlfriend were on the receiving side of this?
