“Hazing” refers to any activity expected of someone joining a group that humiliates, degrades or risks emotional and/or physical harm, regardless of the person's willingness to participate.

STATISTICS 1.5 million high school students are hazed each year; 47% of students came to college already having experienced hazing. 2 in 5 students say they are aware of hazing taking place on their campus. More than 1 in 5 report that they witnessed hazing personally

EXAMPLES Physical abuse (i.e. spanking, paddling, or swatting) Forcing an individual to perform sexual acts Not allowing a group of members or individuals to sleep or eat Changing someone's appearance (i.e. forcing them to wear something or shaving their head) Not allowing a group of members or individuals to sleep or eat Changing someone's appearance (i.e. forcing them to wear something or shaving their head) Name calling, insulting, or yelling at an individual or group Forcing an individual to use drugs or drink alcohol

FAMOUS PEOPLE Ashton Kutcher’s TV show PUNK’D is a way of Hazing, an example of a famous person who he has Hazed is Justin Timberlake.

PUNISHMENT serious bodily injury to another is a misdemeanor - a fine of not less than $1,000 nor more than $5,000, confinement in county jail for not less than 180 days nor more than one year. the death of another is a misdemeanor - a fine of not less than $5,000 nor more than $10,000, confinement in county jail for no less than one year nor more than two years.

OUR VIEWS Brandon – I don’t like the idea of the people who is harassing people. I also agree that its stupid and unnecessary. De Amber - I really dislike the idea of hazing, If someone simply wants to join a frat or sorority and s/he is willing to endure the hazing, I say let them. But I think hazing is completely unnecessary, stupid, and immature.
