Unit 3 Vocabulary definitions imperialism The extension of political power over another nation for the economic or political benefit of the dominant nation. colonization same as imperialism; to dominate another land politically & economically for the benefit of the colonizer. colony a land or region that is conquered by a dominant country, usually for political/economic reasons and for its natural resources. protectorate a country that is defended & controlled by an outside power.
