The largest mountain on the island of St Lucia is Mount Gimie. It’s 950 metres high, much higher than the Pitons but, the Pitons are more famous. SAMPLE SLIDE Random Slides From This PowerPoint Show

The Pitons are old volcanic plugs that rise straight out of the sea. A volcanic plug is the hard centre of a volcano that is sometimes all that is left after millions of years of erosion. Erosion happens when rocks and soil are worn away by wind, water or ice. SAMPLE SLIDE Random Slides From This PowerPoint Show

The guides say that when the smell disappears they will know the volcano will be about to erupt again. If it did that, it would wipe out the whole island and cause a huge wave called a Tsunami to hit the other Caribbean islands. The gas and steam from sulphur springs give off a very unpleasant smell but the tourist guides say that’s a very good thing. SAMPLE SLIDE Random Slides From This PowerPoint Show
