Turkey Alias Project You will receive two grades for this assignment– a narrative test grade which will count for 100 points in the writing category and an presentation grade which will count for 50 points in the listening/speaking/ viewing grade. You can refer to the rubric handed out in class to see exactly where all of the points will come from. Please take note that you will have to show evidence of all steps of the writing process for the test grade portion of this project.

Turkey Alias Project Role– A turkey Audience– Fellow turkeys in need of an idea for hiding Format– A paragraph (minimum of 100 words). Your paragraph must fit on the paper provided along with your disguised turkey. Topic– You are a turkey trying to stay off the Thanksgiving Dinner Table. Explain how you are going to disguise yourself and hide. Give details about your look and what you do to keep from being identified as a turkey.

Turkey Alias Project EXAMPLE PARAGRAPH “In order to escape my fate as a Thanksgiving turkey, I have disguised myself as Cinderella. Every day I scrub the house until it shines, then I cook for my two wicked step-sisters and my wicked step-mother. I sleep next to the hearth and my face and hair get covered with ashes and soot. My hair is singed by the heat of the fire. I get covered in the cinders of the crackling logs, hence my name Cinderella. My step-mother and my step-sisters and I live in my late father’s cabin. I eat bread and butter and drink fresh water from the well. I don’t go anywhere except to the market once a week, and when I do get out of the house, I must walk. A ball is to be held tonight for the prince and as usual I am forbidden to attend. However, I know that someday my prince will come.”

Turkey Alias Project Start the paragraph with the following sentence starter: “In order to escape my fate as a Thanksgiving turkey, I’ve disguised myself as…” Include the role you took on (job). Explain where you lived. With whom did you live with if anyone? What did you eat? What did you do all day and/or all night? What type of transportation do you use or how do you get around? Any additional information you would like to include is ok.

Turkey Alias Project Check your spelling and grammar. One point deduction for each error in the paragraph. Every sentence must start with a different word in the paragraph. Your final copy that is turned in must be in blue or black ink, and it must be written neatly. It can be cursive or printed. It may be typed and pasted onto the paper provided.

Turkey Alias Project Your turkey should be dressed appropriately for the description you wrote in your paragraph. Use paper, cloth, markers, etc. to build and decorate your turkey. Your finished product should be on no more than two 8x11 sheets of paper with your turkey and essay on the same piece of paper. The paper you should use is available on the orange table in the front of the classroom. We will display the best of the best in the hall, so take extra care and pride when creating your final product! There might just be Maverick Money or bonus points in it for you if your turkey gets selected!
