Why is personality so important? * Knowing and understanding your personality and others’ personalities helps us get along better * Civility- Mutual respect What is your personality type? How can you self-assess? What is the culture of your work environment?
The Masks We Wear: What is your mask? Worn for performance, entertainment, disguise, concealment, or protection Describe with a partner a time where you had to put on a mask in a work situation
Art Activity: Create a mask Portray “How others see you” on the front (outside) Then… on the reverse side… How you really feel

Objectives: To enable participants to increase their self- awareness and self-acceptance To enable participants to visually recreate a representation of their personality To gain perspective that will enable participants to use their gained self-awareness in their work environments
Self-Assessment Carl Jung Major task in acquiring self knowledge is understanding the relationship between who one is and how one presents oneself to the world Jung wrote extensively about the persona and the various ways it manifests itself Persona: Latin for “mask” Refers to the practical and successful personality that we use most of the time in the workplace and in social relationships
The Shadow: The dark side of our personalities Features that we learn to disguise and repress Anger, greed, envy, jealousy… Includes both repressed, instinctual feelings and untapped potential
The Masks We Wear: Questions & Take Away What are we learning about ourselves? What are we learning about others? What does this mean when working with others? How can we use this when we return to our daily assignments?

Traditional Models include: Managing/ controlling through manipulation and avoiding negative consequences Also, success means the reduction of maladaptive, or negative behaviors The focus is on what is “wrong” or what “needs to be fixed.”
Good Life Model Based on enriching others’ lives. Increase the quality of someone’s life, and they will respond in kind! Focus is on the positive: unconditional positive regard Be intentional. Be mindful. Develop relationships with others, both with the individuals you serve, as well as with fellow team members. Helping others have a Good Life !

Must Haves activity: Someone has an issue, given to one team member by us…. The team negotiates together how to best address this situation as Allies And- how can the individual best address this issue as a fellow Ally? How do you handle stressful situations as a committed Ally?
