The Shadow: The dark side of our personalities Features that we learn to disguise and repress Anger, greed, envy, jealousy… Includes both repressed, instinctual feelings and untapped potential

 The Masks We Wear: Questions & Take Away  What are we learning about ourselves?  What are we learning about others?  What does this mean when working with others?  How can we use this when we return to our daily assignments?

 Section 4:  To remember the traditional model of services in our field  To learn about the Good Life model  To compare the two models  Mental Models help us “draw conclusions” about the best way to help others!!!

 Traditional Models include:  Managing/ controlling through manipulation and avoiding negative consequences  Also, success means the reduction of maladaptive, or negative behaviors  The focus is on what is “wrong” or what “needs to be fixed.”

 Good Life Model  Based on enriching others’ lives. Increase the quality of someone’s life, and they will respond in kind!  Focus is on the positive: unconditional positive regard  Be intentional. Be mindful.  Develop relationships with others, both with the individuals you serve, as well as with fellow team members.  Helping others have a Good Life ! 
