GET A ROUGH ESTIMATE OF ADJUSTMENT REQUIRED. THE RED DOT SHOULD APPEAR ON THE TOP OF THE FRONT SIGHT POST 4. IF ADJUSTMENT IS REQUIRED GO TO NEXT STEP

INSERT ADJUSTMENT TOOL(COIN,SCREWDRIVER, KNIFE) IN ADJUSTMENT SCREW SLOT. MOUNTING THE AN/PAQ-4A TURN THE THUMB WHEEL CW TO FULLY ENAGE THE ALIGNMENT PIN IN THE HOLE OF THE RIFLE HANDLE USING THE THUMBWHEELCONTINUE TIGHTING UNTIL THE AIMING LIGHT BRACKET ARE FIRMLY MOUNTED ON THE RIFLE NOW YOU ARE READY TO ZERO

ZEROING AN/PAQ-4A MARK THE DESIGNATED STRIKEING POINT 3 SQUARES DOWN AND 3 SQUARES TO THE RIGHT OF THE CENTER OF THE ZERO TARGET SHADE IN A 4 X 4 SQUARE REIGION WITH THE STRIKE POINT AS THE CENTER. THIS REIGION IS CALLED THE DESIGNATED STRIKE ZONE

ZEROING AN/PAQ-4A CONT ATTACH THE 25 METER ZEROING TARGET TO A FLAT SURFACE AT 25 METERS PREPARE THE SECOND AIMING LIGHT WHICH IS CALLED THE BORESIGHT REMOVE SCATTER SHIELD FROM BOTH AIMING LIGHTS.

ZEROING AN/PAQ-4A CONT SCREW ON THE BORESIGHT APERTURE TO THE FRONT OF BOTH AIMING LIGHTS SCREW THE ALIGNMENT DEVICE INTO THE BATTERY CAP OF THTE BORESIGHT UNITL FULLY SEATED

ZEROING AN/PAQ-4A CONT 8. ROTATE BOTH AJUSTMENT KNOBS FULLY CLOCKWISE(CW) TO THE END OF TRAVEL. NOW ROTATE EACH KNOB BACK 5 TURNS COUNTERCLOCKWISE(CCW) AND ALIGN THE WHITE DOT ON EACH KNOB WITH THE FRONT FLANGE. THE BORESIGHT IS NOW IN ITS NEUTRAL POSITION.

ZEROING AN/PAQ-4A CONT TURN THE BORESIGHT TO THE FULLY ON POSITION AND INSERT IT IN THE BARREL WHILE WEARING NVG, BRACE THE RIFLE SUCH THAT BORESIGHT SPOT IS HELD STEADY ON THE CENTER OF THE 25 METER ZERO TARGET

ZEROING AN/PAQ-4A CONT 11. ROTATE THE BORESIGHT IN THE BARREL. IF THE SPOT DOES NOT MOVE OFF THE BLACK SILHOUETTE IN THE CENTER OF THE ZEROING TARGET, SKIP TO STEP 12 . IF THE BEAM TRACES A CICLE LARGER THAN THE BLACK SILHOUETTE ON THE TARGET WHILE ROTATING THE BORESIGHT , THEN THE FOLLOWING ADJUSTMENT MUST BE MADE.

ZEROING AN/PAQ-4A CONT HOLD THE BORESIGHT IN THE BARREL WITH THE MOUNTING FOOT IN THE 12 O’CLOCK POSTION. ROTATE THE BORESIGHT ½ TRUN TO THE 6 O’CLOCK POSTION. OBSERVE THE MOVEMENT OF THE SPOT BEFORE AND AFTER ROTATING THE BORESIGHT. ROTATE THE AZIMUTH AND ELEVATION KNOBS IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE FOLLOWING CHART:

ZEROING AN/PAQ-4A CONT LEFT/UP CW LEFT/DOWN CCW RIGHT/UP RIGHT/DOWN MOVEMENT OF SPOT DIRECTION OF ADJUSTMENT ROTATION AZIMUTH ELEVATION LEFT/UP CW LEFT/DOWN CCW RIGHT/UP RIGHT/DOWN

ZEROING AN/PAQ-4A CONT NOTE THE RATE OF ADJUSTMENT IS ONE SQUARE(1/4 INCH) PER CLICK AT 25 METERS. THE NUMBER OF CLICKS ROTATED SHOULD BE HALF THE TOTAL DISTANCE THE SPOT MOVED IN EACH DIRECTION WHEN THE BORESIGHT WAS ROTATED ½ TURN

ZEROING AN/PAQ-4A CONT EXAMPLE IF THE SPOT MOVES 8 SQUARES TO THE RIGHT AND 8 SQUARES DOWN WHEN THE BORESIGHT WAS ROTATED THE FOLLOWING ADJUSTMENT SHOULD BE MADE

ZEROING AN/PAQ-4A CONT ROTATE THE AZIMUTH KNOB 4 CLICKS ROTATE THE ELEVATION KNOB 4 CLICKS REPEAT STEPS 11 UNITL THE SPOT NO LONDER MOVERS OFF THE BLACK SILHOUETTE WHEN THE BORESIGHT IS ROTATED ½ TURN

ZEROING AN/PAQ-4A CONT WITH THE RIFLE MOUNTED SO THAT THE BORESIGHT SPOT IS ON THE CENTER OF THE TARGET, SWITCH ON THE MOUNTED AIMING LIGHT USE THE ADJUSTER KNOBS TO ADJUST THE MOUNTED AIMING LIGHT SPOTS UNITL IT LIES AT THE 10 O’CLOCK AND TOUCHING THE BORESIGHT SPOT

ZEROING AN/PAQ-4A CONT MOUNTED AMING LIGHT BORESIGHT SPOT

ZEROING AN/PAQ-4A CONT REMOVE THE BORESIGHT FROM THE BARREL. ZERO IS COMPLETE

CONFIRMING ZERO AN/PAQ-4A FROM A SUPPROT POSTIONS, SWITCH ON THE AIMING LIGHT AND POSTION THE SPOT IN THE CENTER OF A 25 METER ZERO TARGET. FIRE A 3 ROUND SHOT GROUP WITH THE SPOT CENTER MASS OF TARGET.

CONFIRMING ZERO AN/PAQ-4A 3. WALK DOWN TO THE TARGET AND INSPECT THE SHOT GROUP FIRED. IF 2 OUT OF 3 ROUNDS ARE WITH IN THE DESIGNATED STRIKE ZONE, SHIP TO STEP 4. IF NOT DETERMINE THE NUMBER OF CLICKS REQUIRED TO MOVE THE CENTER O FHTE SHOT GROUP TO THE DESIGNATED STRIKE POINT. REPEAT STEPS 1-3 UNITL TWO OF THE THREE ROUNDS ARE IN THE DESIGNATED STRIKE ZONE.

CONFIRMING ZERO AN/PAQ-4A 4. THE AIMING LIGHT IS NOW ZEROED FOR 100 METERS. REMOVE THE OPTICAL RETAINER AND REPLACE IT WITH THE SCATTER SHIELD. NOW THE AMING LIGHT IS READY FOR OPERATION.
