Installation for DoubleTalk PC Team: Saleha Alzahrani Lucy Callaghan Anne Premont Alik Vatikay

About DoubleTalk Text-to-speech synthesizer Converts English or Spanish text to clear synthetic speech.

Before you begin: Print a copy of the instructions (the 8 steps) before you turn off your computer.

Make sure you have: 8-bit or 16-bit ISA system expansion slot on your computer motherboard MS-DOS or PC-DOS version 2.0 (or later) Medium screwdriver or 3/16” nut driver or wrench

Here is a view of DoubleTalk with speaker and board.

Step 1 Turn off the power to the computer and unplug the power cord. Attempting to install a board in the computer while the computer’s power is on can cause permanent damage.

Step 2 Remove the cover from your computer. Refer to your computer’s owner’s guide if you are not sure how to remove its cover.

Step 3 Choose an empty expansion slot Notice the expansion slots are on the floor of the computer. Copyright 2001 Sandhills Publishing Co

Step 3 continued Remove the small metal cover by removing the retaining screw with a screwdriver or a nut driver.

Notice the gold connector at the bottom of the green board Point the gold connector downwards into the expansion slot. Copyright 2001 Sandhills Publishing Co

Step 4 Hold the DoubleTalk board firmly at the top edges. Firmly press the gold connector into the expansion slot. Make sure the board is firmly seated in the expansion slot.

Step 5 Use the screw removed in Step 3. Secure DoubleTalk in the computer by reinstalling the screw in the retaining bracket.

Step 6 Replace the computer’s cover and plug in the power cord.

Step 7 continued Plug the supplied speaker into the jack in DoubleTalk’s retaining bracket. Locate the volume control shaft (just above the speaker jack).

Step 7 continued Adjust the volume to about the mid point of its movement. Later you may want to further fine tune the volume.

Headphones Later you may wish to use headphones for private listening. The speaker volume control also adjusts the headphone volume level.

Step 8 Turn on the computer Run a test program supplied on the DoubleTalk Utilities disk.

To run the test: Insert the disk in drive A: Type the following DOS commands: A: [press Enter] TEST [press Enter]

Recommended Software DoubleTalk recommends JAWS by Freedom Scientific to the increase DoubleTalk productivity level.
