What is the Aim of this Study? Here, the gospel message reaches its peak. We are saved through grace. There is hope! We are saved through Jesus’ loving sacrifice. Be sure that the seeker has seen his/her need for grace, and this study in grace will be powerful. It’s also important for the seeker to understand his/her responsibility for Jesus’ death. Establishing personal responsibility will later reap great gratitude and joy for Jesus’ personal love and forgiveness.

Romans 3:21-27 Romans 4:22-25 Romans 5:6-11 Mark 14:26-15:41 1 Peter 2:21-25 Acts 2:36-41 John 3:16-21 The Cross Study

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.” John 3:16-17

Words To Know Justification= is the declaring of a person to be just or righteous. It is a legal term signifying acquittal Atonement (Propitiation)= covering (for sin). that is, that God has provided a way for humankind to come back into harmonious relation with him.( sins have been covered) Reconciliation= involves a change in the relationship between God and man or man and man. It assumes there has been a breakdown in the relationship, but now there has been a change from a state of enmity and fragmentation to one of harmony and fellowship. Forbearance= a refraining from the enforcement of something (as a debt, right, or obligation) that is due

“ To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps. He committed no sin, and no deceit was found in his mouth. When they hurled their insults at him, he did not retaliate; when he suffered, he made no threats. Instead, he entrusted himself to him who judges justly. He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed. For you were like sheep going astray, but now you have returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.” 1 Peter 2:21-25 Memory Scripture

Romans 3:21-27 Point of the Passage Purposeful Question † All are in complete need of grace for all have sinned. † Christ is propitiation or atonement for the wrath we’ve earned † He redeems us; he justifies us. † Why did God present Christ as a sacrifice for our atonement? † What sins in your life are you in desperate need of the grace of Christ?

Romans 4:22-25 Point of the Passage Purposeful Question † How does it make you feel that an innocent man was put to death for your sins? † How should you live knowing that God is willing to take away your sins and give you his righteousness? † We have Jesus’ righteousness credited to us via faith. † Jesus died for our sins and was raised for our justification. † He takes our sins and gives His righteousness!

Romans 5:6-11 Point of the Passage Purposeful Question † How does it make you feel that Christ died for you when you were at your worst? † What does it mean to you that God wants you to be reconciled to him? † How would your life be different being reconciled to God? † Jesus died for us while we were at our worst, enemies of God, weak and sinful. † God’s love is demonstrated by dying for us † His blood changes our lives and reconciles us to God.

Mark 14:26-15:41 Point of the Passage Purposeful Question † How would you have felt watching Jesus go through all of these afflictions for you? † Why would God choose such a horrible death? † Who killed Jesus? † How should we respond to such an act of love? † Jesus chose to die for us † Our sins put Jesus on the cross † Reflect on all of the afflictions that Jesus went through for us

1 Peter 2:21-23 Point of the Passage Purposeful Question † How would all of Christianity change if Jesus would have retaliated or threatened those who insulted him? † How should his life change the way that we deal with sins in our own life? † Do you want to follow in the footsteps of Jesus? If so, Why? † Jesus died on the cross so that we might die to sin and live for the new righteousness that the cross provides. † Jesus’ wounds leads to our healing † This should be our response to the cross.

† God loved the world so much that he sent his Son to save it † Jesus is the Light of the world. He came to expose sin in our lives. † Those who truly believe will live by Jesus’ truth † True belief will lead to eternal life † What does this passage teach us about who Jesus is and why he came? † Explain how true belief in Jesus should change your life? † Are you ready to move into the light of God’s grace? John 3:16-21 Point of the Passage Purposeful Question

† Peter has preached the message of the cross. † Take personal responsibility for putting Jesus on the cross. † We must respond to Christ sacrifice with making him the Lord of our lives. † What would it have meant for those Jews to make Jesus their Lord and their Messiah? † What will it mean for you today? How would your life change? † What is the next step? Acts 2:36-41 Point of the Passage Purposeful Question
