Lesson 3 for the 18 th of July, 2009

“Now this is the gospel message we have heard from him and announce to you: God is light, and in him there is no darkness at all” 1 John 1:5

God has all the qualities of light in the highest degree of purity and He has no quality of darkness. The man has all the qualities of darkness. As we let God's light illuminates our lives, we stop having the qualities of darkness and we start taking the qualities of light.

From verse 1:6 to verse 2:2, John raises the problem of sin and its solution. Solution: Verses 1:7 1:9 and 2:1-2 In order to make the most of these lessons, we must analyze these verses comparing them parallel: Sin: Verses 1:6 1:8 and 1:10

VerseClaimRealityResult 1:6 We say we have fellowship with him We keep on walking in the Darkness We are lying and not practicing the truth Living religion is only in appearance to deceive others. "Sin is at the door".

VerseClaimRealityResult 1:6 We say we have fellowship with him We keep on walking in the Darkness We are lying and not practicing the truth 1:8 We say we do not bear the guilt of sin We are deceiving ourselves The truth is not in us Despite we were sinners before, now we have no sin, we are righteous now and forever. With this attitude we deceive ourselves and we do not realize that our path is going to perdition.

VerseClaimRealityResult 1:6 We say we have fellowship with him We keep on walking in the Darkness We are lying and not practicing the truth 1:8 We say we do not bear the guilt of sin We are deceiving ourselves The truth is not in us 1:10 We say we have not sinned We make Him a liar His word is not in us We will not commit sinful acts, there is no law that we acknowledge. We deny the validity of God's law and we deny God himself. He said that we are all sinners (Romans 3:23)

VerseClaimRealityResult 1:6 We say we have fellowship with him We keep on walking in the Darkness We are lying and not practicing the truth 1:8 We say we do not bear the guilt of sin We are deceiving ourselves The truth is not in us 1:10 We say we have not sinned We make Him a liar His word is not in us 1)We lie. We play with evil. 2)We believe our own lies. We're lost. 3)We make God a liar. We rebel against God.

If anyone does sin We have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous One He himself is the atoning sacrifice for our sins The path to holiness that God asks us to follow involves: 1)Living in real communion with Christ so we will be united with our brothers. 2)Don’t pretending to have no sin. We can be assured of full divine forgiveness. 3)Realizing our obligation of keeping God's law. He gives us the power not to sin, but He also gives us the full security that Jesus is interceding for our sins.

The blood of Jesus, atonement for our sins.

Does the Father need an intercessor to calm His anger so Hi won’t destroy his creatures? “That time you will ask in my name, and I do not say that I will ask the Father on your behalf. For the Father himself loves you” John, 16:26-27 It is us, not the Father, who need an Advocate to intercede for us.

The term parakletos, translated “advocate” in 1 John 2, has been translated differently; for example, “comforter,” “helper,” “advocate,” “mediator,” or “intercessor”. It is a person who is called to the side of someone else and who stands up for someone else. A parakletos can be a person who helps a friend. In the Gospel of John the Holy Spirit is the helper. In the first Epistle of John, Jesus is the helper and intercessor. If the Father loves us, why do we need a advocate?

“My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have one who speaks to the Father in our defense—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One” “My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have one who speaks to the Father in our defense—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One” 1 John, 2:1 NIV

“Jesus wants you to come. If you stumble once and again, do not give up in despair. If you are brought into trial, if you are overcome and do wrong, repent sincerely before God, but do not despair. Try again, laying hold more firmly of the merits and strength of Christ. When sinful man has no righteousness of his own to rely upon, Christ becomes his righteousness. When he feels that he has no strength, Jesus offers to put his arm beneath him. The sinner may then indeed say, Christ died for me, and his blood cleanseth me from all sin. I know in whom I have believed; from him I derive strength for the daily toils and trials of life and to resist the strong temptations of Satan” E.G.W. (Review and Herald, May 4, 1876)
