The Trip West Laura was born in Wisconsin in Her two sisters were Mary and Carrie. When she was two years old the family moved to Kansas. Laura loved to hear her Mother read aloud, and her father play the fiddle.

Growing up they had to play games and with rag dolls. When Laura was seven her family moved to Minnesota where she went to a proper school. Laura went to a one room school with her sisters.

Frontier Life TThe family was busy doing chores.  They were excited about holidays. MMary got sick with scarlet fever and became blind. LLaura had to describe things for Mary since she couldn’t see.  Mary became a teacher. MMary married Almanzo Wilder when she was 18.

Two Writers Laura and Almanzo built a house, had a little girl named Rose, and moved to Missouri. They were farmers, and Laura wrote articles for a magazine about farmers. Rose moved to San Francisco and became a writer. In 1915 Laura went to visit Rose in the frontier of the U.S.

She wrote stories about the frontier from her childhood called The Little House series.
