Books that made a difference to…. Ms. Schemberger 8 th grade Language Arts teacher Pride and Prejudice By Jane Austen Elizabeth Bennet is my favorite heroine in literature—smart, strong, independent. Ironically, I hated this book when I was forced to read it in 10 th grade. It’s my favorite book now. The Glass Castle By Jeannette Walls TRUE story that shows how anyone can overcome a bad situation. I learned that your family doesn’t always define who you are. Marcello in the Real World By Francisco X. Stork This book puts you inside the mind of a person with Asperger’s syndrome. Funny, maddening, and mysterious-- great book. Harry Potter By J.K. Rowlings I want to live at Hogwarts, ride the train, have dinner at the Weasely’s, yell at the Dursleys, watch Quidditch, eat at Honeydukes. Enough said. Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian By Sherman Alexie A funny, heartbreaking story about the life of Native American teen who leaves the “rez” for a white kids’ school. Wemberly Worried By Kevin Henkes I’ve read this book MANY times to my children who worry, worry, worry. Wemberly always made them feel better. Any book by Kevin Henkes (Wisconsin author!) is amazing. Honorable Mention: Goodnight Moon, The Hungry Caterpillar, anything by Katie Fforde, The Red Tent, Fergus, The Shack, The Other Boleyn Girl, Water for Elephants, The Poisonwood Bible, The Book Thief, A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, The Da Vinci Code, Unwind, Outliers, Catching Fire, The Truth About Forever, Saving CeCe Honeycutt, Owen, Freak the Mighty, Whirligig.

I used to play horses all the time. Harry Potter By J.K. Rowlings My daughter and I read the whole series to each other and it was a great bonding time. We love Hogwarts, and she is convinced that she will get a letter telling her that she gets to go to school there.
