MID MON VALLEY TRANSIT AUTHORITY (MMVTA)

Mid Mon Valley Transit Authority (MMVTA)  The Mid Mon Valley Transit Authority is the public transportation provider for the Mid Mon Valley. Not only will we take you almost anywhere in the Mid Mon Valley; we also provide direct and connecting service to Pittsburgh 365 days a year.

Website and Trip Planner  The MMVTA website is a useful tool to obtain information about transportation. MMVTA.com includes downloadable bus and fare schedules, information about transportation programs (free transit cards for seniors, half fare cards, etc.), service alert announcements, and MMVTA upcoming events. Check the MMVTA website regularly for all your transportation information and latest MMVTA news.  The MMVTA Trip Planner is a versatile, web based trip itinerary planner on the MMVTA website. MMVTA rider are able to independently manage their travel choices from anywhere in the MMVTA transit system. Riders can search times, routes, fares and transfers from their origin to final destination. The Trip Planner results show detailed directions on where and how to catch and pay for bus trips. The Trip Planner also lists news and announcements about the entire MMVTA system. Regular MMVTA riders can create personalized commuter pages. Visit and select the Trip Planner Link to get started.

Rider Alerts  MMVTA Rider Alerts are the easiest way to get the latest information about MMVTA detours, schedule changes, contests and events. To receive Rider Alerts us at with your name and address or visit to register. You will then be on our contact list and sent MMVTA updates.

Local Routes  Most Local Routes are color coded and operate Monday – Friday except on selected holidays These holidays consist of New Years Day, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day. These routes operate from approximately 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM. The Green Line has been expanded to provide service from approximately 6:20 AM to 10:30 PM Monday – Friday and new Saturday Service.

Gold Line (local route Monday only)  Westmoreland/Fayette Loop: This route operates on Mondays only. The bus travels from Speers Hill (including Speers Industrial Park & Visa One Professional Plaza) to Belle Vernon, Naomi, Fayette City, Washington Township, to the Plazas in Rostraver Township, then onto Charleroi.  California-Plazas-Rostraver Township: This route operates on Mondays only. The bus travels from California to the shopping plazas in Rostraver Township via the communities of Coal Center, Elco, Roscoe, Stockdale, Allenport, Dunlevy, Belle Vernon, and North Belle Vernon.

Silver Line (local route seasonal Mon. – Sun.)  Silver Line: California/California University shuttle operates throughout the town of California, with service to California University of PA, Jefferson at California Apartments and the Center in the Woods.

Blue Line (local route Monday - Friday)  Blue Line: Donora shuttle operates within the immediate vicinity of the Donora area, with service to shopping in Fisher Heights and Monongahela Valley Hospital.

Red Line (local route Monday - Friday)  Red Line: Charleroi shuttle operates within the municipalities of Charleroi and North Charleroi, with service to several high-rises and shopping areas.

Green Line (local route Monday - SATURDAY)  Green Line: Donora- Monessen - Charleroi-Belle Vernon- Plazas. This route operates from Donora through Monessen, North Charleroi, Charleroi, Lower Speers, Belle Vernon and North Belle Vernon, with stops at all three shopping plazas in Rostraver Twp.

Commuter Routes  Commuter Routes A and B, provide service from California through the Mid Mon Valley to downtown Pittsburgh, seven days a week, 365 days a year, with less service being offered on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays.  Route A operates from Speers/Charleroi to Pittsburgh beginning at 4:50AM and ending at 10:33PM, and from Pittsburgh to Charleroi beginning at 7:10AM and ending at 1:13AM on weekdays. During peak commuter hours, service is provided on a more frequent basis than during non-peak hours.  Route B operates from New Eagle to California from 6:30AM to 9:30PM and from California to New Eagle from 7:30AM to 9:55PM, Monday through Friday.

Route A (commuter route Monday - Sunday)  Route A: (Charleroi to Pittsburgh) via Speers, Charleroi, North Charleroi, Monessen, Donora, Monongahela, New Eagle, Finleyville, Library, South Park, Hillcrest and Castle Shannon. This route is a commuter route which travels the Route 88 corridor to the point where Routes 88 and 51 intersect, then onto the South Busway, and into downtown Pittsburgh, providing service from the Mid Mon Valley through to Downtown Pittsburgh.

Route A (commuter route Monday - Sunday) DOWNTOWN PITTSBURGH - INGOING STOPS: (1)Station Square at the T Station; (2) Smithfield & Blvd. of Allies; (3) Smithfield & Fifth (Macy’s); (4) Smithfield & Sixth; (5) Liberty & Tenth.

Route A (commuter route Monday - Sunday) DOWNTOWN PITTSBURGH – OUTGOING STOPS: (1) Bus Stop “C” (on entr. to E. Busway); (2) Smithfield & Sixth (Burlington); (3) Smithfield & Fifth (McDonald’s); (4) Smithfield & Third; (5) Smithfield St. Bridge at Station Square in front of the Landmarks Building.

Route B (commuter route Monday - Sunday)  Route B: (California to New Eagle) via California and California University of PA, Coal Center, Elco, Roscoe, Stockdale, Allenport, Dunlevy, Speers, Charleroi (wherein riders may easily transfer onto a Route A bus), North Charleroi, Carroll Twp. with stops at Monongahela Valley Hospital, Monongahela and New Eagle, traveling the Route 88 corridor.

STUDENT REDUCED FARE PROGRAM  The MMVTA is now offering all FULL TIME high school, college and career/trade training schools students reduced fare on all routes. (EXCLUDES CAL U – Cal U students ride at no charge when presenting valid student ID)  Students must complete a Student Reduced Fare Application and receive a MMVTA issued Student Reduced Fare Card.  When the student presents the card, they will receive exactly half fare rounded up to the nearest nickel on one way trips and all multi ride fares.

Senior Citizen Free Transit Cards  Senior Citizen Free Transit Cards are available through the Authority offices to all individuals 65 years of age or older. Proof of age is required at the time of application (excluding Medicare cards).

Reduced Fare Cards  Person with Disability Reduced Fare Cards are available through the MMVTA offices to all qualified applicants. Applications must be verified by an authorized physician or agency. (Medicare cards are accepted as proof of disability.) NOTE: Any rider who shows the driver a valid Medicare card is entitled to ride for 1/2 fare during non-peak hours.

“UPLIFT” Paratransit  UPLIFT ADA Paratransit Service began in October, 1996 to qualified individuals with disabilities. This service enables ADA-eligible individuals to be picked up at a location (within 1 mile from a designated Authority stop) and transported to a destination (also within 1 mile of a designated stop). The vehicles utilized for this service are small, lift-equipped buses. Applications are currently being accepted to determine eligibility for this service. Please note, fare for UPLIFT Paratransit is double the regular charge.

MMVTA Transit Center (Charleroi, PA)  Located at 1300 McKean Avenue in Charleroi, the MMVTA Transit Center offers passengers scheduling information, a climate controlled waiting area, public restrooms, and is home to the MMVTA Administrative offices. The MMVTA Transit Center and Administrative Offices are open Monday - Friday 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM.

MMVTA/California University of PA Park & Ride Lot: Located on Route 88 across from Cal U’s Jefferson at California apartments. The new MMVTA/Cal U Park and Ride Lot offers free parking for commuters and includes lights for night time safety and a large bus shelter to protect riders from the weather elements. Route(s) serving MMVTA/Cal U Park & Ride Lot: 1. Silver LineCalifornia/California University shuttle. Riders can transfer to the Route B to Charleroi in California at Rite Aid or on Cal U’s campus in front of Manderino Library. 88 Transit Lines, Inc. (MMVTA’s transportation contractor) 88 Transit Lines, Inc. is located at 100 Arentzen Blvd. Charleroi, PA, in the Speers Industrial Park at the entrance to Vista One. Chamber Plaza (Charleroi, PA) Chamber Plaza offers free all day parking. This lot can be accessed by turning right off of McKean Ave. (Route 88 N) or left off of Fallowfield Ave. (Route 88 S) on to Fifth St. and proceeding over the train tracks into the plaza in Charleroi. Free parking is located in the back of the lot on the old SPHS side of the plaza. Current MMVTA Route(s) serving McKean Ave. at 5th St. or Fallowfield Ave. at 5th St.: 1.Route A - Commuter Route from Speers/Charleroi to Pittsburgh via Route 88 corridor 2. Route B - Commuter Route from New Eagle to California with stops as Monongahela Valley Hospital and transfer options in Charleroi to Route A 3. Green Line - Local Mid Mon Valley route with service to Donora, Monessen, Belle Vernon, North Belle Vernon and three shopping plazas in Rostraver Township 4. Red Line - Shuttle bus that operates within the municipalities of Charleroi and North Charleroi, with service to several high-rises and shopping areas

Park & Ride Locations MMVTA Transit Center Park and Ride (Charleroi, PA) The MMVTA owns and operates a Park and Ride only lot across from the Transit Center located on the Fallowfield Ave. side of the building. This ideal location offers free parking for commuters and includes lights for night time safety and a full service Transit Center during normal administrative operating hours. Current MMVTA Route(s) serving MMVTA Transit Center: 1.Route A - Commuter Route from Speers/Charleroi to Pittsburgh via Route88 corridor 2. Route B - Commuter Route from New Eagle to California with stops as Monongahela Valley Hospital and transfer options in Charleroi to Route A 3. Green Line - Local Mid Mon Valley route with service to Donora, Monessen, Belle Vernon, North Belle Vernon and three shopping plazas in Rostraver Township 4. Red Line - Shuttle bus that operates within the municipalities of Charleroi and North Charleroi, with service to several high-rises and shopping areas

Park & Ride Locations Monongahela Aquatorium (Monongahela, PA) The Monongahela Aquatorium offers free all day parking for commuters. Aquatorium parking can be accessed by turning off Main St. and down 2 nd St. Major bus stop located at Main St. and 3rd St. Current MMVTA Route(s) serving Main St. at 3rd St.: 1.Route A - Commuter Route from Speers/Charleroi to Pittsburgh via Route 88 corridor 2. Route B - Commuter Route from New Eagle to California with stops as Monogahela Valley Hospital Crookham Park and Ride (Union Township) Coming Soon! Located on Route 88 near Ginger Hill Rd.

Park & Ride Locations The following is a list of Port Authority of Allegheny County Park and Ride Lots that MMVTA riders can utilize to catch MMVTA buses: Library Park and Ride Lot (Library) The Library Park and Ride Lot is located near Route 88 at Pleasant Street. It is at the end of the Port Authority’s T line. This lot can be accessed from Route 88 by turning left off of Route 88 North or right off of Route 88 South near the Library Volunteer Fire Department. Current MMVTA Route(s) serving the Library Park and Ride Lot: 1.Route A - Commuter Route from Speers/Charleroi to Pittsburgh via Route 88 corridor NOTE: The MMVTA Route A will not travel into the lot. Riders will have to wait at the traffic signal at Route 88 and Brownsville Road.

Park & Ride Locations West Library Park and Ride Lot (Library) The West Library Park and Ride Lot is located near Route 88 at Clifto Road next to the Port Authority’s T crossing over Route 88. Current MMVTA Route(s) serving the Library Park and Ride Lot: 1.Route A - Commuter Route from Speers/Charleroi to Pittsburgh via Route 88 corridor NOTE: The MMVTA Route A will not travel into the lot. Riders will have to wait along Route 88 on the side of the lot near the T crossing. Washington Junction Station (Bethel Park) The Washington Junction T Station is located near Route 88 at Milford Drive. Current MMVTA Route(s) serving the Library Park and Ride Lot: 1.Route A - Commuter Route from Speers/Charleroi to Pittsburgh via Route 88 corridor NOTE: The MMVTA Route A will not travel into the lot. Riders will have to wait at the traffic signal at Route 88 and Milford Drive.

Transit Center Ticket Sells Stop in the Transit Center at 1300 McKean Ave. in Charleroi to purchase your tickets or use the mail order form on At the Transit Center we accept cash and personal checks with proper ID! (MMVTA Transit Center is the only location that will accept personal checks). You can still buy tickets with exact fare directly from the driver.
