Technical Issues Related to Standards -- Band Class 5 Band Plans Dr. Edward Tiedemann Chair, 3GPP2 TSG-C Working Group 3 CDMA450 Evolution Seminar Hosted by 3GPP2, CDG, and IA450 Warsaw, Poland 15 June 2004

1 3GPP2 Band Plan Specification 3GPP2 TSG- C recently created C.S0057 Band Class Specification for cdma2000 ® Spread Spectrum Systems –Removes all of the band class specific information from cdma2000 and HRPD documents –Done during the development of cdma2000 ® Revision D and HRPD (1xEV-DO) Revision A –Makes it easier to update band class information –Published by TIA, as TIA-1030

15 June Existing Band Class 5 Blocks Band arrangements were as a result of NMT450 allocationsBand arrangements were as a result of NMT450 allocations Frequency spacing (raster) mirrored that of NMT450 allocationsFrequency spacing (raster) mirrored that of NMT450 allocations

15 June Proposed Modifications Make all blocks have a 25 kHz frequency spacing –Would retire existing F, G, and H blocks in specifications Consider slightly wider blocks for mobile station to support, thus facilitating roaming –Needs to be fully investigated to ensure mobile station duplexers can be adequately built

15 June Existing Band Plans

15 June Proposed Block H Modification Existing Block H –20 kHz frequency spacing – – / – MHz –Preferred Set: / (1087), / (1150), / (1213) Nortel proposal to create Block I –25 kHz frequency spacing –Essentially the same frequency range Minor adjustments due to the different frequency spacing – / – MHz –Essentially replaces Block H

15 June Band with Block I Replacing Block H

15 June Other Proposed Thoughts The following proposed modifications are based upon informal discussions with several in the cdma450 industry and are not formal proposals to 3GPP2 The purpose is to discuss these ideas to obtain a better understanding between 3GPP2 and the CDMA450 industry Discussion focuses on Blocks A, B, C, G, H/I

15 June Band with Block I Replacing Block H and G’ Replacing Block G for 25 kHz Raster

15 June Enhancing Roaming Proposal to slightly extend the bandwidth of certain blocks that a MS would operate over –Done only for a MS –Extend Block I higher by 125 kHz, thus allowing operation on / (210), a preferred frequency for Block A –Extend Block C higher by 50 kHz, thus allowing operation on / (170), a preferred frequency for Block B –Extend Block A lower by 150 kHz, thus allowing operation on / (120), a preferred frequency for Block B Proposal to clarify that a Block A mobile station shall support the conditionally valid channels

15 June Supported Preferred Channels

15 June First Preferred Set Channel to Deploy If mobile stations   Support conditionally valid Block A channels, and   Support an expanded Block C by 50 kHz Then a single frequency can be deployed for each block and support mobile stations from all other blocks (except for G)

15 June Blocks with Extended Bandwidth
