Reflections from Last Class?

Ayah 26

Hayya (haa yaa yaa): to feel extremely shy, reluctant, or such fear that stops one from doing something in front of others 1. Allah SWT does not leave any examples out of shyness 2. Allah does not fear that He strikes an example

Ayah 26 Dhawriba (Daawd Raa Baa): literally, to strike/beat one thing against another; also used for travelling;  presenting an example (not to hit an example) Maa: over here its extra to emphasize the next word; even of a mosquito (no matter how insignificant you might thing is)

Ayah 26 Ba’udha (baa ain dhaaw): some or part of; a small creature; with the naked eye, you can only see a part of the mosquito Fawqa (faa waw qaaf): above/over, physically in place or superiority, status, rank 1. what is above the mosquito in its size. He’s not shy of giving an example of something even smaller 2. Of that which is on top of the mosquito. A mosquito carries a parasite which is even smaller 3. above the mosquito in greatness, that which is bigger, for example, fly, spider etc.

When the ayahs were revealed about the idols being compared to a fly, then the people started mocking the Qu’ran Ibn Abass – don’t get stuck in the details; when the people didn’t understand the truth, Allah SWT revealed this ayah, as an example. The believers understand the truth by the example

Ayah 26 Haqq: established truth; those who believe are the ones who benefit from the examples Surah Ankabut: those who have knowledge will benefit from the example and understand it

Ayah 26 Raa waw daal: to walk about back and forth in search of something; the reason behind why you want to do something (Iraada = intention) The disbelievers say: what does Allah mean by presenting this example? Sometimes we don’t understand something, we object. These people don’t want to understand, its not because the Qu’ran is hard to understand

Ayah 26 Daawd Laam Laam = to leave someone to go astray; to judge someone as being astray by actions Faasiq (faa seen qaaf): to cross the boundaries/limits; the date becomes to ripe, that the pulp comes out Technically: disobedience Major: crosses the bounds of Islam (this ayah referring to this) Minor: sometimes commits wrong things

Ayah 26 – Lessons We should not feel shy from speaking the truth We should trust Allah SWT when it comes to understanding the Qu’ran A believer does not reject the commands of Allah SWT When looking at an example we should look at the intent of the example People benefit from the Qu’ran according to their own capacity and intention (are you looking for guidance or faults)? Can we use our mind when studying the deen? Yes! But also realize that we have limited understanding and intellect

Ayah 27

Who are the fasiqeen? Noon Qaaf Dhawd: to break or unravel something after it was put together Ahd: a promise one makes with the intention of fulfilling it. 1. Some say this is the promise in Surah Maaidah: a promise taken by every nation, that they will support their prophets and believe in them 2. Surah A’araf: a promise that was taken before we came into dunya. Called meethaq; breaking the promise by not believing in Allah SWT Meethaq: when a promise is made firm by making an oath; how to do you make it more firm? By saying Laa ilaha illallaha in this world

Ayah 27 Waw Swaad Laam – to join 2 things together; they cut which Allah SWT has commanded to be joined What must be joined? 1. Ties of kinship (blood ties) 2. Believing in the Prophet SAW 3. Imaan; supporting the deen 4. Words must be joined with action (follow the commands of Allah SWT)

Ayah 27 Fasaad 1. Physical earth – pollution; destroying buildings; bombing places 2. Dwellers of the earth – lying, cheating, backbiting Basically, any act of disobedience is fasaad; these people are busy doing fasaad on the earth; creating havoc on earth Muslims are people from whom other people are safe from their tongues and hands

Ayah 27 Khusraan: to suffer loss; they will lose their dunya and the deen People do things to gain something; but they are only gaining loss We must not break the promises with Allah; if you do, Allah will fulfill His promise to you

Ayah 27 - Lessons Analyze yourself: Do I have characteristics of a Faasiq? (Hadith) Highly rewardable: More wealth and more health, keep relations with your family (Hadith) The word Ar-Rahm derives from Rahman; if you keep good relations with family, then Allah SWT will keep good relations with you

Ayah 27 – Family Ties Having problems with relatives is normal; but cutting off ties, is not the solution and not acceptable Why can’t we? What’s the big deal? Because Allah SWT created these relations; we didn’t choose our parents, siblings etc.

Ayah 27 – Family Ties Maintaining ties: speaking to them, visiting them giving gifts to them How about if you’re good but they’re not good to me..so is it justified then? NO

What are some ways we can maintain Family Ties?

Allah SWT has created everything for: Our sake So that we take a lesson

Ayah 29

Aleem: One who has a a lot of knowledge; abundance; also gives the meaning of continuity Knows everything from the tiny mosquito to the skies Lessons: Don’t become slaves to the things around us Fear Allah, not people

Ayah 29 Istawaa: Allah SWT rose over the sky (vs. taking a “rest”); shows His ownership Not aware of the details of “how” Allah SWT rose over the sky; but we accept it and believe in it
