The Ku Klux Klan (KKK) is a name of several past and present secret domestic terrorist organisations in the Untied States. KKK were known for encouraging the idea of white supremacy and acting as vigilantes while wearing coned shaped masks and white robes. The Ku Klux Klan relates to ‘to kill a mocking bird’ as they both contain serious racial discrimination.

THREE KLANS The First Klan was founded in 1865 The Second Klan was founded in 1915 and lasted until It consisted of between 3 to 6 million members, this number peaked in Which is around the time ‘To Kill A Mockingbird’ is set. The Third Klan is still going today, researchers estimate that there are members.

This book is a good example of racism in America in the 1920’s through to the 1930’s. in the book, just like in real life back then, racism was a part of everyday life. Blacks were not considered as equals back then. The character of Tom Robinson in the book, is accused of committing a crime which he did not do, cause he was black. The crime had to be blamed on someone, and if it could be blamed on a on black person, then it was better due to the racial views of America in the 1920’s – 1930’s

Tom Robinson had a lot evidence showing he was Innocent from the trial, but he was still charged guilty This is because he was black (convicted by an all White jury.) In the world back then, in towns such as Maycomb, it was a racist community since everyone Was bought up that way, and no one knew better. BY ABBY AND CYNTHIA.
