Roman Women Women took care of the household. Always had a guardian (first father, then husband) Couldn’t work in gov’t Could own property

Rich Roman Children Have private tutors or attend school Girls are under strict rule of father Could be fun but girls got married at 14 and learned how to take care of the home.

5.03 Text Assignment Starter What would a rich Roman child say about school? What would they say about being able to play outside? What would a poor Roman child say about school? What would they say about having to work all the time?

Here are some ideas! Rich Roman: My dad is a rich plebeian. We have money because he goes to the market and sells items. Poor Roman: My dad is a slave. We have a mean master we have to work for. Rich Roman: I am always under the strict rule of my father. But my mother teaches me how to take care of the home. Poor Roman: I am under the strict rule of my father too! I will always be a slave and work for the master.
