Limiting Reagent: the reagent that is completely used up in a chemical reaction. Excess Reagent: reagent not completely used up in a chemical reaction.

“the amount of product formed is limited by this reactant” Limiting Reagent the reactant which is totally consumed when the chemical reaction is complete “the amount of product formed is limited by this reactant”

How is this different from what we did yesterday? If you are given amounts of both reactants, you have to find the limiting reactant. If you are given only the amount of one reactant, it is a basic stoichiometry problem.

Find the limiting reagent by calculating and comparing the amount of product each reactant will produce. Use stoichiometry for each individual reactant to find the mass of product produced. The reactant that produces a lesser amount of product is the limiting reagent. The reactant that produces a higher amount of product is the excess reagent.

: Find the limiting reagent when 1. 22g O2 reacts with 1 : Find the limiting reagent when 1.22g O2 reacts with 1.05g H2 to produce H2O.

Let us look at respiration, one of the most common chemical reactions on earth. C6H12O6 + 6 O2 → 6 CO2 + 6 H2O + energy What mass of carbon dioxide forms in the reaction of 25 grams of glucose with 40 grams of oxygen?

Calculate the mass of magnesium oxide possible if 2 Calculate the mass of magnesium oxide possible if 2.40g Mg reacts with 10.0g O2 Mg +O2 → MgO Remember: The limiting reactant will determine how much is produced.
