We used to do it the old way 10th Grade English (one semester) Speech Reading elective Writing elective Reading Lab Myths and Legends Contemporary Literature American Literature World Literature AP English Applied Communications Creative Writing Experiences in Writing Advanced Composition AP English

Then several things started to happen Iowa Core Curriculum Integrated Language Arts Curriculum Review Students speak out Have books or topics kids would relate to and enjoy. Make the English courses more connective to problems that teenagers have today. Iowa Core Curriculum Update book choice s to newer, more excitin g choice s. The courses offered now are very general, which is good for overall education but not necessarily specific interest.
