Let it Go! How Frozen Conquered the World Higher Close Reading

I Think Everyone in Here Will Have Seen Frozen… It’s kind of a big deal. Frozen is an animated Disney movie that was released in 2013 and became a huge hit. It tells the story of 2 sisters who drift apart and must overcome their differences to save the small Norwegian town of Arrendale. Little girls went mad for it and it’s now Disney’s highest grossing film along with their fastest selling toys. The soundtrack is also the highest selling film soundtrack EVER. And let’s see why…

Let it Go in 25 Languages

How it Should Have Ended

If that’s still too sickening, there’s always these… izA izA AWO0 AWO0

How does the writer use language to show how popular Frozen has become?(4) It's a rare thrill to watch a genuine pop-culture phenomenon unfold. At first, Frozen was simply the new Disney movie. Then it was a very good Disney movie. By the time it became the highest- grossing animated movie of all-time (overtaking Toy Story 3) at the end of March it was a generational touchstone. Over the Easter holidays, my daughter heard another girl singing Let It Go, Frozen's centrepiece anthem, and they became instant friends, like two men at a barbeque realising that they support the same football team.

How do you approach a question like this? What is it asking – how does the writer use language… Language could refer to: – Word Choice – Imagery – Sentence Structure – Tone – Any other feature It’s not just enough to spot these though. Your comment must answer the next part of the question – what does it reveal about Frozen’s popularity?

How do you present this information? Bullet points Quote and Explain – do that for every 2 marks available. Try to just quote the important part. In your explanation you should identify the technique and then comment on its use in this case.

For example: “rare thrill” Word choice of rare thrill suggests that it’s something incredibly exciting that doesn’t happen very often. Here it shows that Frozen is something truly exhilarating that viewers have been waiting a long time for.
