Personal Hygiene It would be unfair to say that all teenagers are stinky, but it could be argued that some are! Teenagers are stinky!!

Identify the Hygiene Issue On the worksheet you need to identify the hygiene issue on the body and state what it is.

Checklist Dirty hairEar wax old make-up Runny nose sleep in eyes yellow teeth Bad breathbody odour dirty clothes Long finger nails dirty finger nails Tide mark on shirt food and dirt on clothing Dry skin Dirty and smelly feet

The Effects of Poor Hygiene Oral hygiene: Poor dental hygiene can lead to tooth decay, ulcers, cavities, discolouration or abscesses. Your teeth could fall out, bad breath and ridicule from our friends… Hair hygiene: Poor hair care can lead to dandruff, oily or greasy hair, damaged hair, bleeding scalp from scratching and ridicule from our friends…

The Effects of Poor Hygiene Skin hygiene: If we do not wash regularly then dirty skin can lead to infection, body sores, illness from germs, itching & scratching, body odour and……. ridicule from our friends Foot hygiene: If we do not look after our feet then it could lead to foot odour, fungal infection in the toes, verrucas, in-growing toe-nails and… ridicule from our friends…

The good news is that all of these negative situations can be prevented by adopting good personal hygiene habits and these include: Good Hygiene Tips

Top Tips Brush and floss teeth (use mouthwash) twice daily. Wash hands and face thoroughly first thing in the morning and last thing at night. Shower daily (cheaper, quicker and more hygienic than having a bath). Wash hair at least twice each week. Dry feet thoroughly after showering. Use anti-perspirants and deodorants (but not onto a sweaty body!) Look in the mirror before you leave home and ask yourself, do you look and feel clean…

The Benefits of Good Hygiene Reduces the chance of infection and illness. Good relationships with others. Increased personal pride and standards. Noticed by someone you are attracted to. Remain fit, healthy & strong. Increase your self-esteem.

Summary Remember the different aspects of poor hygiene and how it can lead to unhappiness and illness. Think about the different ways in which you can make improvements to your personal hygiene. Remember the benefits of good hygiene and how it can improve your overall happiness.

We’re Finished!! Any Questions?
