The EARNEST Foresight Study What is the EARNEST Study? ”Foresight” study looking at the future of research and education networking across Europe Commissioned by European Commission and co-ordinated by TERENA Runs from March 2006 to October 2007 Successor to SERENATE report of Broken down into seven study areas

The EARNEST Foresight Study What are the goals of EARNEST? To provide policy inputs for new initiatives keeping Europe at the networking forefront To provide evidence of the impact on research in recent years To look at the possibility of new models for collaboration with industry To prepare the ground for further development after the completion of Géant2

The EARNEST Foresight Study Schools sub-study aims Establish how schools are connected – by NRENs directly; to schools networks; or through ISPs; some other way? To look at which services are offered to schools To establish the needs of schools – infrastructure, services and support To investigate the impact of network connectivity, and ICT, on schools – on teaching; on pupils’ achievement

The EARNEST Foresight Study Schools sub-study aims cont. The main aim is to establish how network connectivity and services are actually used by teachers and learners Therefore, the study will be written from the point of view of schools
