Community Profile 53 sq miles Population: 131,000 Median age 29.4 yrs. 48.2% 4+ yrs. of college 280 m of bike trails 300 days of sunshine Fort Collins Utility: –62,000 homes and businesses –Nearly all underground system

City of Fort Collins Energy Policy Energy Policy 1.5% energy savings Reduce system peak by 5% by 2015 / 10% by 2020 Develop renewable resources to meet the Colorado Renewable Energy Standard Provide Highly reliable electric service Comprehensive Plan Policy Remain at the forefront of Smart Grid technologies and participate in Research and Development partnerships.

RDSI Background – Fort Collins DOE awarded $6.3M; local entities contributed $5.1M. City of Fort Collins is project lead.  Main Goals:  Demonstrate coordinated system of mixed Distributed Energy Resources  Intentional islanding  Reduce peak load by >20% - 30% (>3.5 MW)

2011 Demonstration Summary 14% reduction across 2 feeders (~2.3 MW) & 25% reduction across 1 feeder (~2.0 MW) Maximum Generation: 1,950 kW Dispatchable: gensets Non-dispatchable: PV, steam plant generator Maximum Load Shed: 550 kW Smart Grid: RDSI
