System Center Configuration Manager 2012 SP1 Enhancements include: Deployment and management of Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012 –Windows 8 apps, deploy and update these apps alongside your existing native and virtual applications –Deployment and management of Windows to Go USB drives –Easily manage new policies for Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012 Example: For mobile workers, the ability to detect 3G and 4G network connections to prevent delivering software at a time when data charges may apply Distribution point for Windows Azure to help reduce infrastructure costs Automation of administrative tasks through PowerShell support Management of Mac OS X clients and Linux and UNIX servers manager-sp1-beta-and-windows-intune-update.aspxhttp://blogs.technet.com/b/server-cloud/archive/2012/09/10/system-center-2012-configuration- manager-sp1-beta-and-windows-intune-update.aspx.

Rapid implementation and rollout Reduced day-to-day system administration and support Greater reliability and security Improved skills usage and availability Improved user experience CPS migrated to a centrally managed IT infrastructure based on Windows Server 2008 R2, Microsoft Exchange Server 2010, and Microsoft System Center and Microsoft Forefront products Chesapeake Public Schools (CPS) had an outdated IT infrastructure based on Novell software, which presented issues that included application incompatibility, trouble finding local support, and the need to reboot some servers on a daily basis School district reduces time network staff spends on trouble tickets by 43 percent “ We plan to do more with Microsoft software as soon as we get the funding. Best of all, we no longer need to worry about finding vendors who can help us or whether new software will run in our environment.” Kate Pitchford, Director of Information Technology, Chesapeake Public Schools

The University of Waterloo virtualized the infrastructure at its Department of Housing and Residences to reduce costs and boost performance. It accomplished that but, as demands on the infrastructure grew, so did the need for further innovation. The department met that need with Microsoft private cloud technology, avoiding an estimated CDN$600,000 (US$605,275) in new costs, speeding virtual deployments from days to minutes, and increasing application quality and availability. University Avoids Estimated CDN$600,000 Expense, Boosts Performance with Private Cloud …tripled the density of virtual machines per host, reducing the need for additional hardware. It now supports about 360 virtual machines on 16 blade and rack-mounted servers, instead of the 35 host servers it would have needed at its previous virtual machine-to-host density. At about CDN$6,500 (US$6,556) per server, the department saved more than $200,000…
