Membership is the Key to Zonta Success! Area Meetings Lt Governor Judy Kautz

Objects of Zonta Zonta International Updates Current District 10 Status and Trends E-Clubs/E-Members Referrals from ZI website What Tools and Techniques Do We Have? Strategy for Today

Objects of Zonta ZI Bylaws state “Area meetings are to promote objects and programs of Zonta” Objects of Zonta 1.To improve the legal, political, economic, educational, health and professional status of women at the global and local level through service and advocacy. 2.To work for the advancement of understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of executives in business and the professions.

Objects of Zonta, cont. 3.To promote justice and universal respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms. 4.To be united internationally to foster high ethical standards, to implement service programs, and to provide mutual support and fellowship for members who serve their communities, their nations and the world. Wow! How can we not be moved by these objects? Doesn’t Zonta sell itself?

ZI Membership Trends Decrease of 3.25% from Feb 2011 to Feb 2013

ZI Membership Trends Increase of 5.55% from Feb 2011 to Feb 2013

ZI Membership Trends Total Resignations Decreased 30.9% in 2 years

District 10 Membership Trends Overall numbers are down 5%, but New/Reinstated members increased by 11%

Takeaways The most important position in Zonta is being a member! Find them! Keep them! Thank them! Most importantly, we cannot accomplish Zonta’s mission without members! Remember our District 10 Goal: Increase one member per club this biennium

E-Clubs E-Club: A Zonta club that conducts its business and holds its meetings through use of electronic communications. An e-club has all the rights and responsibilities of a traditional Zonta club, but simply holds their club meetings electronically. E-club members may meet in person as a group or independently for service projects and fundraisers dependent upon each member’s proximity to one another.

E-Clubs (cont.) Members of e-clubs are encouraged to have at least one face-to-face meeting per year with members of other Zonta clubs, e.g. at the District Conference, Inter-district Seminars, or International Convention. Each e-club belongs to a district and is assigned to a district by the International Board

Benefits of E-Clubs Meet interesting, involved people who share common goal of improving lives of women Be part of a powerful network with the convenience of attending meetings electronically in the comfort of your chosen location Build friendships and network locally, nationally and internationally with a wide variety of people from many different professions Accept leadership roles that promote personal growth and self-confidence Participate in lively and interesting discussions that impact the world

Benefits of E-Clubs An existing Zontian desiring to be a charter member of an e-club must resign membership in her/his existing Zonta club by the time the new club is admitted to ZI. A member cannot be both a member of a traditional and an e-club at the same time. ZI Membership Manual suggests many technology tools for e-clubs, including chat rooms, skype, gotomeeting, web blogs, message boards, etc. There is no definition yet of e-member Lt Governors are lobbying for that concept!

Referrals from ZI Interested person fills out form online Referral is sent to Governor and Lt Governor for action We determine which club is closest and forward referral to club president Club determines eligibility through meeting interested person Club responds with what action was taken – did person join or not? Of 180 requests from prospective members, only 5 have joined!

What Tools Do You Have? Social media –Club websites, Facebook and Twitter –District 10 website membership page PR –Business cards, club brochures, community events, service projects, fundraisers Mentoring –Mentoring dinner, new member orientation, member surveys to assess if needs are met

More Useful Tools ZI and District 10 Membership Manuals Area Meetings and District Conferences –Workshops, education on international projects, networking with other Zontians District Membership Fund –Membership monetary awards –District assistance for membership events Most effective? One-on-one! Wear a “Z” every day!

Club Cross Talk Share your ideas with us! What worked for you in your quest for new members? Inquiring minds want to know!

Remember: Always at the forefront should be Zonta’s mission and the difference we make in the world! Share the message!
