Writing an Expository Paragraph Expository Writing Writing an Expository Paragraph

Expository Reading & Writing Every Day People read expository writing every day for information. Name three sources of expository writing for information: ______________

Expository Paragraph An expository paragraph explains by Steps Causes Kinds of something An example of expository writing is a classification paragraph that explains the parts of a topic

What is a TDD A telecommunications device for the deaf, or TDD works like instant messaging on a computer. The TDD is made up of a keyboard, display screen, modem, and printer. First, the user types a message on the keyboard and then sends it to another TDD. When the message reaches its destination, it appears on the other user’s display screen. The TDD does not ring like a regular telephone does. Instead, a flashing

light tells the person at the other and that a message is waiting light tells the person at the other and that a message is waiting. Some TDD systems include a vibrating wristband to aleart the person that a message has arrived. There are alos message relay centers so that people using regular telephones can send messages to TDD’s. Today, more than foru million people in the United States have TDD’s. This communication tool makes it easyfor people with sever hearing disablities to “reach out an dtouch sombody” with a message

Parts of an Expository Paragraph Topic Sentence Body sentences Closing sentence

How Would You Classify the Planets? Three Types of Planets People often think all planets are alike, but there are actually three types of planets in the solar system. The terrestrial plants are made of rock and metal and are closest to the sun. These include the midsize planets Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars. They rotate slowly and don’t have many moons. Farther from the are the

planets called gas giants, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune planets called gas giants, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune. They are called gas giants because they are formed from gases such as hydrogen and helium. Gas giants rotate fast and have many moons. Finally, planetoids are objects made up of rock and ice and are too small to be true “planets.” Planetoids sometimes even get pulled into a planet’s gravitational field and become moons themselves. Whether they are terrestrials, gas giants or planetoids, the planets in the solar system are fascinating.

Pre Writing

Write an Expository Paragraph Write a paragraph that you can share with a classmate. Include a topic sentence, body sentences and a closing sentence. The paragraph must have a topic with three parts. Revise and edit a classmate’s paragraph Final draft turned into the basket in the front of the classroom

Essential Question Why is it important to pay attention to paragraph structure when writing an expository paragraph?
