P SYCHODYNAMIC T HEORISTS Psychodynamic theory is based on the belief that unlocking the unconscious mind is the key to understanding human behaviour & relationships Example: Calling your new girlfriend or boyfriend by your ex’s name (called a Freudian Slip) would lead a psychoanalyst to speculate that you have some unresolved feelings associated with the ex or you have some misgivings about the new relationship The conscious mind is everything we are aware of, that we can think about rationally Early childhood experiences are seen as important to understanding a person’s personality, motivations, and behaviours Some psychoanalysts believe that human development occurs mainly in the first few years of life

D ISCOVERING 3 P SYCHOANALYSTS Get into groups of three Each group will discuss a psychoanalyst and you are write down and collaborate what the main ideas/thoughts/explanations are of the particular psychoanalyst Your group will present the findings to the class You should write down the important points for each theorist in the chart provided
