This statement can’t possibly be proven. It includes a sweeping word (worst). Do not include words like “always” “never” “best” “worst” “all” “none” or “every” in your thesis statement. Cell phones should not be used daily because they are linked to brain cancer, they cause automobile accidents, and they distract students from their schoolwork.

What is wrong with the following thesis statement? Robots are a bad thing for America. This statement is too general. Avoid words like “bad” “good” “nice” and “fun” in your thesis statement and in your writing. Be specific about why your technology is beneficial or detrimental and pose a solution.
