How to create presentations that won’t make your audience’s eyes bleed or confuse their brains

 The goal is to make it EASY TO READ.  Resist the urge to make it fancy.  Fancy = hard to read  Use white space between element. Don’t try to fill up every inch of the page.  Design for the back of the room (Your whole audience deserves to see your work).

 Use high-contrast colors (colors that stand out against each other).  Examples:  black/white  dark blue/light yellow  Know your projector!  Some colors will be different on a projector.

 All text on this page shows font sizes: (32)  Use large font sizes for titles.  Use smaller font sizes for captions or body text. (minimum of 16 in most fonts)  Depending on the font name, the letters may be a different size, even if the number is the same.

 Use borders, white space, or contrasting backgrounds to make graphics stand out.  Include a caption for any graphics. This is a caption. Above is a pretty picture. Captions should use small font sizes.

 Use subtle transitions and animations.  Keep animations on the same slide the same or very similar  Wow your audience with your ideas, not fancy tricks that distract or disguise your lack of them.

 This presentation is an example of good design.  See the next slide for an example of what NOT to do.

This is totally FANCY AND AWESOME!!! I LOVE TO MAKE MY TEACHER’S EYES BLEED!!! I TOTALLY WRITE TOO MUCH IN A SMALL SPACE SO IT IS IMPSSIBLE TO READ AND I KEP GOING UNTIL IT IS SO SMALL THAT I NEED A SCANNING ELECTRON MICROSCOPE JUST TO SEE IF THERE IS ANYTHING ACTUALLY THERE. I MAKE IT MY MISSION IN LIFE TO INCLUDE SO MUCH JUNK THAT IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO ACTUALLY READ ANY OF IT WITHOUT BECOMING AN EAGLE-HUMAN MUTANT CROSS_BREED AND INVESTING HEAVILY IN BINOCULARS AND LASER EYE SURGERY. THIS IS ANOTHER EXAMPLE OF BAD DESIGN. IF I WAS ANY BUSIER, I WOULD HAVE A HEART ATTACK!
