Evacuating Casualties using the SKED® or Improvised Litter Being able to evacuate Casualties in a quick , efficient manner can result in saving their life. The Casualty may need to be moved to a MTF or a Landing Zone for pickup. Sometimes the casualty may walk, but if they are unable, you need to carry them.

Evacuating Casualties using the SKED® or Improvised Litter (Cont’d) SKEDCO Litter

Evacuating Casualties using the SKED® or Improvised Litter (Cont’d) The majority of this block of instruction will be hands on viewing and application. The SKED® is a compact, lightweight transport system used to transport a casualty over land. It can be used to rescue a casualty in the water, and it can also be configured to airlift a casualty to a hovering helicopter.

SKEDCO litters come in several different sizes: Evacuating Casualties using the SKED® or Improvised Litter (Cont’d) SKEDCO Litter SKEDCO litters come in several different sizes: Full Sked Ranger Sked Collapsible Sked Military Half-Sked

Evacuating Casualties using the SKED® or Improvised Litter (Cont’d) If no SKED® or TALON® is available, you may need to construct a litter using poles, and blankets. You may use a poncho, or a jacket, but it is advised to always have 2 rigid poles. However, if these are unavailable due to mission requirements, then you may use a poncho, and carry the casualty that way.

Improvised Litters There are times when a standard litter is not available. Distances may be too great for manual carries.

Improvised Litters Litters can be improvised from materials at hand Must be well-constructed.
