There are 2 main purposes: To present some of the findings of our recent community questionnaire To outline some of the proposals for a youth project to help meet some of the needs. There will be a musical presentation from (Juergen to complete) and refreshments to enhance the experience and time for responses and questions. This is still a development stage so your feedback is very valuable to us. Community Information EveningDunoon Baptist Church Youth Centre Proposal Tier 1 – Open Space Need: Young people need an open space, somewhere to congregate safely, to relax. Solution: A drop in centre, including a coffee/ ice cream bar, games such as pool / tabletennis, Xbox or playstation, music, TV. The centre would be open most afternoons after school and most evenings. Requirements: An available facility, kitted out, staff to run it.
Community Information EveningDunoon Baptist Church Tier 2 – Regular Activity Need: Young people need to be busy and active, to be members together in groups or teams. Solution: Regular clubs and activities, these would include the weekly eXp Youth Club, an afterschool homework club with careers advice, music lessons and a mentoring programme. The drop in centre could be used as a location for these and there are many possible extensions (dance classes, sports clubs, dry nightclub etc.) Requirements: An available facility, staff and volunteers.
Community Information EveningDunoon Baptist Church Tier 3 – Extending Themselves Need: Young people need to meet new challenges, to extend their capabilities and to increase social inclusion. Solution: Projects that last a short period, including cooking classes, band nights, mechanics classes, job club, trips with the police, Computer Courses, DJ schools, drugs awareness and sexual health courses, new sports trials, university preparation or a radio station. Requirements: A variety of partnerships with varied skills, financial backing for projects.
Community Information EveningDunoon Baptist Church Tier 4 – Living the Dream Need: Young people need to see that the highlights of life are not drink and drugs. Solution: Provide ‘highlight of your life’ activities. These would include regular activities and summer activities that would be the highlight of the year, such as eXp camp or trips skiing / snowboarding, but also would extend to once-in-a-lifetime opportunities such as trips to Africa / Asia on service projects or touring with sports or music. Requirements: Time and preparation, worldwide partnerships, staff, volunteers, a lot of energy.
