Positivos ßTo answer a question in a positive way in Spanish, you usually start with “sí” “sí” in front of the verb or expression. ß¿ ß¿ Te gusta cantar? Sí, me gusta cantar. ßDo you like to sing? Yes, I like to sing.

Positivos ßTo say you like it a lot, put “mucho” after “gusta.” ß¿ ß¿ Te gusta cantar? Sí, me gusta mucho cantar. ßDo you like to sing. Yes, I like to sing a lot.

Positivos ßTo say you prefer an activity over another, put “más” after “gusta.” ß¿ ß¿ Te gusta más cantar o escuchar música? Me gusta más cantar. ßDo you prefer to sing or to listen to music? I prefer to sing.

Positivos ßIf you want to agree with someone and say that also like something, use también: ßA mí también. ßMe too.

Positivos ßYou can also use también not only when you are agreeing with someone but just to mean “also”: ßTambién me gusta bailar. ßAlso, I like to dance a lot.

Negativos used with GUSTAR

Negativos ßTo make a sentence negative in Spanish, you usually put “no” in front of the verb or expression. ßIn English you usually use the word “not.” ßNo me gusta cantar. ßI do not like to sing.

Negativos ßTo answer a question negatively, in Spanish you often use “no” twice. ßThe first “no” answers the question. ßThe second “no” says, I do not … (don’t).”

Negativos ßThis is similar to the way you answer a question in English. ß¿Te gusta escribir cuentos? ßDo you like to write stories? ßNo, no me gusta. ßNo, I don’t.

Negativos ßIn Spanish, you might use one or more negatives after answering “no.” ß¿Te gusta cantar? ßDo you like to sing? ßNo, no me gusta nada. ßNo, I don’t like it at all.

Negativos ßIf you want to say that you do not like either of two choices, use ni…ni....: ßNo me gusta ni nadar ni dibujar. ßI don’t like either swimming or drawing. ßI like neither swimming nor drawing.

Negativos ßIf you want to agree with someone and say that you don’t like something either, use tampoco: ßA mí tampoco. ßMe neither.
