Lab: Cells

What will we be looking at under a microscope in this lab? Bacteria Cells Plant Cells Animal Cells

Specimen Whatever you want to look at under a microscope. (e. g Specimen Whatever you want to look at under a microscope. (e.g. hair, blood, cells, insects, etc.)

Preparing Microscope Slides: 1. Grab a clean glass slide. 2 Preparing Microscope Slides: 1. Grab a clean glass slide. 2. Place specimen on middle of slide. 3. Put one drop Iodine (Blue Dye) on top of specimen. 4. Cover specimen with a cover slip. Iodine Specimen

Cover Slip Purpose of a cover slip is to cover the specimen and iodine so that the objective lens does not get wet. Specimen + Iodine

Microscope: Eye Piece Lens = 10 x Low Power Objective = 4x High Power Objective = 10x

What will you be viewing? Cells Specimen Animal Human Cheek Cells Plant Elodea Bacteria Strep (Causes Strep Throat)

Cheek Cells – Low Power

Cheek Cells – High Power

Purpose of Iodine: Outlines the big parts of the cell such as the Nucleus and Plasma membrane.

Elodea Cell – Low Power

Elodea Cell – High Power Label nucleus and chloroplasts on drawing!

Bacteria – High Power
