Let’s Talk About Stress! ●What is stress? o A body’s natural response to factors that may be threatening to you  “Fight-or-Flight” response ● Bear is attacking you! Do you run away or fight it off?

Let’s Talk About Stress! ●Is stress bad for you? o Not necessarily!  Stress can help us complete tasks and meet deadlines  Can save your life!!! ● Can help you focus

What Can Cause Stress? ●ACADEMIC o Midterms, finals o Homework o Graduating on time o Extracurricular activities o Career o Graduate school, GRE ●PERSONAL o Roommate problems o Family/Friends o Relationships o Time management o Money ●LIFE EVENTS o Death o Accidents o Embarrassing situations

Too Much Stress Can Be Bad!!

How Can You Tell If You’re Under A Lot Of Stress?

Ways To Limit Stress ●Try to get a good night’s rest (at least 7-9 hours)! ●Try to have a balanced diet! Some foods can actually reduce stress o Nuts o Broccoli o Salmon o Black/Green tea ●Plan ahead. Procrastination is the enemy!

FEAR NOT! YOU CAN FIGHT STRESS! ●When stuff feels like it’s piling up, make to-do lists ●If you’re studying and feel overwhelmed with info, take a minute break and walk around outside. FRESH AIR! ●When figuring out a plan of attack, organize what needs to be done by due date, how much something is worth, or by time needed to complete. ●Find a form of release. Find a way to let go of the thoughts/emotions that are making you stressed. ●Take up a calming (or not-so calming) hobby. Maybe try some meditation, join a class at the arc, etc. ●Remember that it’s okay to step away from everything to take a breather. Take some time off to re-energize and refocus

FEAR NOT! YOU CAN FIGHT STRESS! ●Make a game plan for the coming day or week. Scheduling out when you should do things actually helps you stay organized and keeps you on time. ●Try to keep a positive attitude! Though stress can get you down, try to look at the bright side of life. Find at least one thing to be grateful for in that day! WHAT ARE SOME THINGS YOU DO TO HELP MANAGE STRESS?

Resources To Help With Stress ●COUNSELING CENTER o Professional counselors are here for you! o Across Starbucks on Ring Road ●HEALTH EDUCATION CENTER o Promotes healthy choices and behaviors by covering various topics such as general health, wellness, nutrition, etc. o G319 in the Student Center (within student terrace) ●PEER EDUCATORS o A branch of the counseling center consisting of students--just like you- -who are trained to help!

Resources To Help With Stress ●PEER ACADEMIC ADVISORS PROGRAM o Have a wide knowledge on who to go to, which campus resources you may find best for your situation (academic and personal). ●FRIENDS o If you talk to your friends about things that may be going on, they might be able to cheer you up, help you knock out stressors, etc.
