Automatic Conditioning J. Alberto Rodriguez

Outline Purpose of an automatic conditioning system General overview Fast signals Long term access to data: timber & meter Short term access to data

Purpose of an automatic conditioning system Increase time available for conditioning by –Reducing the number of operators needed –Reducing and/or simplifying the number of tasks to be performed by operators Learn more about the conditioning process by –Eliminating uncertainty introduced by operators’ conditioning strategy –Systematically acquiring data for real-time and off- line analysis and comparison

General overview Fast signals: RF pulses Faraday Cup Signals BPM Signals Slow signals: Pressure levels Missing Energy? Faraday Cup Events? Reflected Energy? Pressure too high? Conditioning Strategy Enable/disable the e - gun Wait until pressure goes down Increase/reduce e - pulse length Increase/lower RF power into the structure CTF3 Status Operator Store information in database

Fast signals

Long term access to data: timber & meter Objectives: –Permanent storage of experimental data –Allow users to follow progress of experiments and perform their own data analysis Problems: –Not immediately updated in timber (delay ~ 15 mins) –Data not permanently storage in meter (deleted after ~ 1 week)

Long term access to data: timber & meter Information that will be stored: Characteristics of every RF pulse: –Pulse energy –Pulse peak power... Some “interesting” pulse waveforms: –Those with Faraday cup event –Those with missing energy and/or large reflected energy –Those that trigger vacuum interlocks… Some “random” pulse waveforms (every few mins) Conditioning strategy parameters –Time to wait after interlock occurs –Minimum missing energy to trigger an interlock –Minimum number of consecutive pulses showing Faraday cup events to trigger an interlock… Calibration parameters –Variable attenuator settings –Losses in the lines …

Long term access to data: timber & meter

Short term access to data Objectives: –Eliminate the delay of timber in updating information Show impact of changes in beam tuning on 30 GHz RF production (real-time) Show impact of changes in conditioning strategy in conditioning progress (real-time) –Simplify user interface –Increase flexibility on information to be displayed
