Qualities of a pure heart

In This Study What is a pure heart? (What God’s word says about purity of heart) Integrity and Honesty Self-control and Patience Humility and Contentment Kindness, Love and Confidence Qualities of an Impure Heart (Dangers to the pure heart) Purifying the Heart (Keeping it pure)

Kindness  “Serviceable, good, pleasant.” (Vine’s)  “To provide something beneficial as an act of Kindness (L&N, 88.67)  ONE who acts in a pleasant and helpful manner toward others. He is NOT hateful.

Kindness  Lacking in society in many places.  Rudeness prevalent in media  Also in social media  How much more gracious would society be if all practiced kindness?

Kindness  Demonstrated by God Titus 3:4, Eph. 2:7, Luke 6:35

Love  2 Thess. 3:5, Now may the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God.  2 Tim. 2:22, Flee youthful lusts, pursue righteousness, faith, love…out of a pure heart

Love  1 Pet. 1:22, Love one another fervently with a pure heart.  Romans 5:5, “Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts ( cf. 1 John 4:19 )

Love  That the pure heart is motivated by love is seen in numerous other texts  Rom. 12:9, “Let love be without hypocrisy.”  1 Cor. 8:1, “Knowledge puffs up, but love edifies.”

Love  1 Cor. 16:14, “Let all that you do be done with love.”  Gal. 5:13, “through love serve one another”  2 Pet. 1:7, Gal. 5:22

Love  How is love demonstrated?  By loving God – 1 John 4:19, Obeying Him – John 15:9-10, 14:15, 1 John 5:3  By loving others – Matt. 22:39, John 13:34-35, Rom. 13:8- 10, 1 Pet. 4:8

Love  How is love demonstrated?  Forgiveness, a practical example to consider Matt. 6:14-15 (cf. Lk. 15:11-31)  Matt. 18:21-22, Lk. 17:3-4 – How often? 70x7  Col. 3:13, Eph. 4:32

Confident  Belief in the certainty of something. One’s assurance that he is right.  While we need humility, we also need confidence!  We need to be sure of our salvation and confident in our abilities as we develop – see 2 Pet. 1:5-11

Confident  2 Tim. 1:7, “God has not given us a spirit of fear…”  1 John 4:18, “perfect love casts out fear…”  Romans 12:3, “Not to think more highly of himself than he ought to think…”  James 1:6-7, “let him ask in faith.”

Confident  WHY is a pure heart confident?  Because it is undivided, has integrity & honesty, and has learned self-control, patience, humility and love.  1 John 3:20-21

May these qualities give us pure confidence!
