2. Lo! the hosts of evil round us scorn thy Christ, assail his ways! God of Grace and God of Glory (Verse 2)

Grant us wisdom, grant us courage, for the living of these days, (of these days) for the living of these days.
PRAYER O God, our Guide and Guardian, you have led us apart from the busy world into the quiet of your house. Grant us grace to worship you in Spirit and in truth, to the comfort of our soulsand the upbuilding of every good purpose and holy desire.Enable us to do more perfectly the work to which you have called us. Help us to worship you not with just our lips at this hour, but in word and deed all the days of our lives; through Jesus Christ our Savior. Amen.

Scripture Reading Psalm 123 Text
I raise my eyes to you, whose throne is in heaven. As a servant looks to the hand of his master, or a slave-girl to the hand of her mistress, so our eyes turn to Adonai our God, until he has mercy on us.
Have mercy on us, Adonai, have mercy; for we have had our fill of contempt, more than our fill of scorn from the complacent and contempt from the arrogant. The words of God for the people of God. Thanks be to God.
3. Cure thy children’s warring madness, bend our pride to thy control; God of Grace and God of Glory (Verse 3)
shame our wanton, selfish gladness, rich in things and poor in soul.
Grant us wisdom, grant us courage, lest we miss thy kingdom’s goal, (kingdom’s goal) lest we miss thy kingdom’s goal.
4. Save us from weak resignation to the evils we deplore; God of Grace and God of Glory (Verse 4)
let the search for thy salvation be our glory evermore.
Grant us wisdom, grant us courage, serving thee whom we adore, (we adore) serving thee whom we adore.
Gospel Reading Matthew 25:14-30
The Kingdom of Heaven is also like a man going off on an extended trip. He called his servants together and delegated responsibilities. To one he gave five thousand dollars, to another two thousand, to a third one thousand, depending on their abilities. Then he left. Right off, the first servant went to work and doubled his master’s investment. he second did the same. But the man with the single thousand dug a hole and carefully buried his master’s money.
After a long absence, the master of those three servants came back and settled up with them. The one given five thousand dollars showed him how he had doubled his investment. His master commended him: ‘Good work! You did your job well. From now on be my partner.’ “The servant with the two thousand showed how he also had doubled his master’s investment. His master commended him: ‘Good work! You did your job well. From now on be my partner.’
“The servant given one thousand said, ‘Master, I know you have high standards and hate careless ways, that you demand the best and make no allowances for error. I was afraid I might disappoint you, so I found a good hiding place and secured your money. Here it is, safe and sound down to the last cent.’ The master was furious.
That’s a terrible way to live!
It’s criminal to live cautiously like that!
If you knew I was after the best, why did you do less than the least?
The least you could have done would have been to invest the sum with the bankers, where at least I would have gotten a little interest.Take the thousand and give it to the one who risked the most. And get rid of this “play-it-safe” who won’t go out on a limb.Throw him out into utter darkness.’ The words of God for the people of God.Thanks be to God.
