Welcome to Grade 8 Cameron Middle School Procedures & Guidelines

Materials Managers Material Mangers will be responsible for handing out class materials They will be appointed for entire week. There will be at least two of them Their names will be on the board

General Rules Backpacks will not be allowed in the classroom. CMS Students are being prepared for High School where backpacks are not allowed. No food or drink will be allowed in the classroom. Locker times will be – (a) Before 1 st period (b) Before 4 th period and (c) Before 6 th period Students are to bring their books to class at all times. No chewing of gum will be allowed. Students will consider the teacher’s desk to be an off-duty zone. Students are not to come to the teacher but the teacher will come to them. Students will be asked to walk on the right side of the hall. The noise level in the hallways should be minimized and there should be no screaming in the hallways.

Entering the Classroom Enter the classroom quietly and go directly to assigned seat Immediately begin to work on Do Now Do Now will normally be done on folder paper and inserted into folders. Materials Managers will hand out folders and notebooks.

When you are tardy Enter quietly Excused: Bring excuse to teacher Collect materials. Have a seat and proceed to do your work.

Leaving the Classroom The bell does not dismiss the class, the teacher does. At the sound of the bell, close your book and stop working. Stay in your seat until you hear the teacher dismiss you. Any assignments / homework should be placed in the students folder. The class will leave row by row, beginning with the row closest to the door. Stand in order, that is from front to back. Take your folder and class notebook and deposit it in the designated box at the front of the class by the door. Enter the hallway quietly and proceed quietly to your next class.

Obtaining the Teacher’s Attention No more than one person should be speaking at any one time in the class. The policy will be silent hands. Hands will be raised silently and the person will only speak when called upon to do so by the teacher.

Bathroom Breaks – Wastepaper – Pencil sharpening There will be no bathroom breaks. Use the bathroom during your allotted 5 minute break. No-one is to go to the trash to throw away anything. No-one is to sharpen pencils without first obtaining the teacher’s permission

Lining up for Lunch The bell does not dismiss the class, the teacher does. At the sound of the bell, close your book and stop working. Stay in your seat until you hear the teacher gives instructions. Those whose last names begin with the letters M-Z will leave first and go to the back of the lockers and line up one behind the other quietly. Those whose last names begin with the letters A-L will leave next and go to the front of the lockers and line up one behind the other quietly. There should be one orderly line with each person one behind the other. The class will not go to the Cafeteria until the line looks like this.

Following Guidelines will result in: A pleasant and orderly classroom atmosphere which leads to the Big Goal being attainable.

Checklist for Participation and Responsibility Your participation score will count for 5% of your overall grade The charts are posted on the wall and will be updated at the end of every period.

Not Following Guidelines will result in: 1 st – Verbal warning and documentation 2 nd – Parental Contact, Action Plan 3 rd – Disciplinary Referral
