I am excited to be teaching here at Lincoln Elementary. My family and I moved here from Southern Utah where I have been teaching for the last 14 years. My husband is also an educator. I have two boys (both are married) and two girls. We are expecting our first grandchild any time! I am looking forward to a great year with you and expect nothing but successful, happy students. Let me introduce myself…

Whose job is that? Student’s Job --Be responsible for myself --Get my things home and back to school --Work hard all the time --Complete my work and stay focused --Pay attention to my work --Be a good friend --Work well with everyone Teacher’s Job --Make learning fun --Plan each lesson and activity to make me think --Make our classroom a safe, positive environment --Help me find my strengths --Help me improve my weaknesses Parent’s Job --Help me practice at home --Check how I am doing at school --Let my teacher know things that may help me learn --Teach me how to be more responsible --Be involved in my learning

When the class reaches 50 points they will receive a reward. Tickets—Individual students can earn tickets for good behavior. We will have a drawing at the end of each month for rewards. Honors Activity--Classroom Party at the end of each term. Each student must meet the following requirements: --No missing assignments, 2 or above in Smart book, no more than two problem reports, must follow school rules, good citizenship.

Homework and Projects Homework Your student will be expected to read a minimum of 20 minutes during the weekday. Research shows that students who read perform better on tests, are better writers, and higher-level thinkers. It makes sense to read. Reading will be tracked on his/her daily planner. Also, look for a quick homework sheet each night to reinforce the skills taught at school. I expect homework to be turned in on time!!! I will accept late homework up to a week after it is due, but 10% of the points will be deducted for every day it is late. --Projects—Watch for the following projects: Monthly Book Reports President Biography and Stamp Reports—Science and Social Studies Are You a Patriot? (More information later) Multiplication Club Also, plan on a special visitor-- Sidney the Science Gal and field trips Projects Watch for the following projects: Monthly Book Reports President Biography and Stamp Reports—Science and Social Studies Are You a Patriot? Your involvement is key to your child's success; please be involved in his/her education! I will communicate with you the following ways: --Daily Planners- Look for homework folders daily. Inside you will find a weekly planner that will list the student's homework and assignments due, and any special messages from me. Please mark your initial in the daily planner so I know that you have seen the folder Most of my communication will be through . You can me at or go to the elementary --Calls- I will call you if there is a problem. If you have a question or concern, you may call the office and leave a message and I will return your call as quickly as possible.

--Curriculum is based on the Davis DESK standards. If you have any questions you can visit the Davis District website for more information. Language Arts--McGraw Hill Language Arts Math—numbers and operations, algebraic thinking, fractions, measurement and data, geometry Science—matter, Earth’s surface, magnets and electricity, inherited traits, scientific inquiry Social Studies--Explore the United States' past and connections to the present --Grading will be based on a point system using the district SMART book. Grades will be updated every Friday and you can access your child’s grades online. Call the office to see how to sign up. Printouts will be sent home at midterm and end of term. Failed tests may be taken again, but will only be worth 80%.

A pencil box containing most of the supplies you need will be provided. If you can bring the following items it would be helpful: Pencils Eraser Caps Small Pencil Sharpener Colored Pencils 12 inch ruler Also, if you can donate any of the following items it would sure help out: Box of tissues Clorox wipes Rubber Cement Glue

If you have a reading book that you have started, bring it to school. Currently, we do not have a classroom library; it is a work in progress. Also, we will not have an opportunity to go to the library the first week of school as a class. You may have to make a visit there before or after school to check out a book. Everyone needs a silent reading book, so please do what you can to get one.

Every child deserves a champion – an adult who will never give up on them, who understands the power of connection and insists that they become the best that they can possibly be. Rita Pierson Let’s champion your child and work together to make this school year the best it can possibly be. Remember, communication is key to your child’s success. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
