Humanity in fear

What is it?  The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is the world's largest and highest-energy particle accelerator, intended to collide opposing particle beams of either protons at an energy of 7 TeV per particle or lead nuclei at an energy of 574 TeV per nucleus. It lies in a tunnel 27 kilometres (17 mi) in circumference, as much as 175 metres (570 ft) beneath the Franco-Swiss border near Geneva, Switzerland.  The Large Hadron Collider was built by the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) with the intention of testing various predictions of high-energy physics, including the existence of the hypothesized Higgs boson and of the large family of new particles predicted by supersymmetry. It is funded by and built in collaboration with over 10,000 scientists and engineers from over 100 countries as well as hundreds of universities and laboratories.

When it built?  In this Feb. 29, 2008 file photo, the last element, weighing 100 tonnes, of the ATLAS (A Toroidal LHC ApparatuS) experiment is lowered into the cave at the European Organization for Nuclear Research CERN (Centre Europeen de Recherche Nucleaire) in Meyrin, near Geneva, Switzerland.

Why scientist built it?  Physicists will use the LHC to recreate the conditions just after the Big Bang, by colliding the two beams head-on at very high energy.  And after that we, maybe, we will know how our world was made, but…

But?  Today critics have contended that the machine could produce a black hole that could eat the Earth or something equally catastrophic.  Collider was tested some times and every time it became broken. Is this a coincidence? Superstitious people do not think so.

The Black Hole Nobody wants to visit it…

And who tells the truth?  CERN and leading physicists dismiss the fears and maintain the project is safe.  CERN's director-general, Rolf Heuer, said the collider has been studied very carefully and is much better understood than a year ago.

Let's hope for the best.  Today nobody knows what is the truth- the black hole or the jump in science. But mankind believe in good future.
