SmartWay Transport Partnership Project Overview Goal: Demonstrate the effectiveness of Advanced Technologies in increasing fuel efficiency and reducing emissions from the trucking industry. Approach: Year-Long Demonstration Project Funding:EPA Grant Award$300,000

SmartWay Transport Partnership Demonstration Project 1.Eligible Applicants 2.Eligible Activities and Costs 3.Additional Requirements 4.Reporting 5.Project Schedule 6.Application Process 7. Selection Criteria

SmartWay Transport Partnership Call for Projects Eligibility Criteria Based in ozone nonattainment/maintenance area, and/or operate in DFW Metroplex and/or near US- Mexico Border

SmartWay Transport Partnership Call for Projects Eligibility Criteria (Continued) Travel consistent, dedicated routes over long distances Will contribute 50 percent of capital costs of fuel- saving and idle-reduction technologies Can maintain SmartWay tractor-trailer combination throughout project, OR create “trailer pools” where a SmartWay trailer is always available Able to maintain and track fuel economy consistently and reliably

SmartWay Transport Partnership Call for Projects Eligibility Criteria (Continued) Will include fuel economy data from a sampling of trucks traveling similar route that are NOT equipped with Upgrade Kits Willing to provide other project data such as fuel logs, receipts, truck/engine information, and characterization of operations Committed to operating, maintaining, and supporting Upgrade Kit technologies

SmartWay Transport Partnership Call for Projects Eligible Activities and Costs Upgrade Kits must include at least one of each of the following: 1.Fuel Saving Technology 2.Idle Reduction Technology 3.Emission Reduction Technology

SmartWay Transport Partnership Call for Projects Upgrade Kit Requirements Fuel-Saving Technologies: Single-Wide Tires Advanced Trailer Aerodynamics Automatic Tire Inflation Systems Low-Viscosity Lubricants Reimbursed 50 percent by NCTCOG

SmartWay Transport Partnership Call for Projects Upgrade Kit Requirements Idle Reduction Technologies: Auxiliary Power Units (APU) Heating/Cooling Systems Reimbursed 50 percent by NCTCOG

SmartWay Transport Partnership Call for Projects Upgrade Kit Requirements Emission Reduction Technologies: Diesel Oxidation Catalyst Crankcase Filter Diesel Particulate Filter Reimbursed 100 percent by NCTCOG

SmartWay Transport Partnership Call for Projects Data Collection Requires the following information for each participating truck: 1.Engine Control Module 2.Supporting Information

SmartWay Transport Partnership Call for Projects Reporting Once Upgrade Kits are installed, NCTCOG will require monthly reports Monthly reports must include: 1. Overall work status 2. Fuel economy data from the engine control module 3. Supporting documentation (fuel logs, etc.) 4. Identified problems during data collection 5. Any testing, inspection, maintenance, or calibration of engine control modules 6. Any other difficulties that may affect project schedule and proposed solutions
