TAGS ON TRAILERS POTENTIAL IMPACTS ON SEVERAL AG SECTORS Livestock Producers Livestock Sale Barns Cotton Producers Wheat, soybean, canola, corn producers

LIVESTOCK Multiple trailers owned by livestock producers (5-6) sometimes more Gooseneck trailers, flatbed trailers, equipment trailers, cargo trailers, even trailers for lawn mowers Some trailers never travel state roads or interstate highways Many producers have full time jobs away from the farm or ranch

WOULD TAGS HELP WITH THEFT ISSUES? Oklahoma livestock trailers can be tagged currently Provides possible challenge for livestock markets

CROP PRODUCTION Producers may only use some trailers a few times a year May have up to as many as 50 trailers depending on the commodity Trailers may never travel state roads or highways

OTHER STATES Texas Registration required for all non-farm trailers Farm trailers less than 4,000 lbs exempt from title and registration Farmer or Rancher may obtain a farm trailer license for $5 if they choose Any farm trailer over 4,000 lbs must have a tag Homemade trailer over 4,000 lbs must have a tag Must also have an annual safety inspection and provide weight certificates and photo of trailer Ohio Registration required for all trailers Cost is based on weight of trailer per 100 lbs (for a 9,000 lb trailer the tag would cost $150) Must have the weight of trailer for the tag office (proved by the certificate of origin or a weigh slip from a scale)

COST IMPLICATIONS TO PRODUCERS Livestock Producer- Voluntary $7 Farm tag that is already an option x 6 trailers = $42/ annually If tag is required by the state - $15 x 6 trailers = $90/ annually Crop Producer- Voluntary $7 Farm tag that is already an option x 50 trailers = $350/ annually If tag is required by the state- $15 x 50 = $750 / annually
